From one of the linked articles:
WTF

I was floored. Up until that moment, I never knew that some people have a running stream of thoughts being narrated in their head at any given time, most notably, my husband and likely some of my in-laws. Meanwhile, the inside of my head is blissfully quiet.
WTF

Do you have an inner dialogue?
Yes, pretty much non stop. This is an interesting topic because I tend to overthink certain situations, but it seems the inner dialogue is directly tied to self awareness. And some people just have zero self awareness but are still functionally ‘normal.’ Are they the ones who lack inner dialogue?

I do to the point my wife accuses me of talking to myself sometimes.

I break the 4th wall like 16 times a day.

Lucky you, my wife’s is an outer monologue

My inner monologue is incessant. I’m never not hearing constant chatter in my head. I have a friend who does not have an inner monologue. She described her thoughts as pictures rather than words. I get pictures, as well, but I can’t imagine thinking without words.

Press Maravich, Pete's father, said he dreamed in Serbian, the language of his youth.

Mine won't STFU
Same, and mine is trying to escape. I will 100% be the crazy lady muttering under her breath at the grocery store.

My theory is that the few who do not have this have read very little in their lives, because reading without an inner dialogue is impossible for me.

Is this kind of like talking to yourself?
Posted on 8/1/25 at 8:24 am to stout
I would imagine impulsive, fly by the seat of their pants, people don’t do this.

How would one know if they had an inner dialogue?
Wouldn’t that just be….thoughts?
Wouldn’t that just be….thoughts?

Research suggests that 30% to 50% of people regularly experience an inner monologue or inner dialogue
I have a hard time comprehending that only 30 - 50% of people have no internal dialogue. What's going on in the majority of people's heads? Nothing? How do you solve a problem or make a decision without an internal dialogue?

Read a Bible. It tells you all about it!
