Do you have a friend who tips too much?

Got this fella in my group of friends who consistently tips 35-40% every time we eat out, no matter how good or bad or average the service. No hair off my arse, more power to him I guess. But last night we get a bill that can't be split and he picks it up and we agree to just venmo him our parts. $43 between the three of us, he tips $15 and has us pay as if we each tipped $5. This is BWW so the service wasn't exactly blow your pants off good either.

And for the "lol you poor" crowd I always tip 20%. Just seems crazy to go out of your way to pay way more than you're socially obligated for average service.

20% here unless its really bad.

Mainly because the math is so easy

$65.89 meal? Move the decimal to 6.59 and double it.

Send him $16-17, tell him tipping 20% is customary

My first question is, why do you tip based on what others in the group tip?

Why not tip what you feel you should tip just like you were eating by yourself?

Tip coordination is a requirement among friends, and if someone doesn't abide by that, they're the a-hole.

I don't tip anything. Why should I subsidize your poor career choices? Get a real job.

I do this every time, or just round up to the nearest fifty cents to make it easier

You might want to learn how to read. He is saying the big tipper paid for the entire bill and expects each of them to split it evenly forcing everyone to pay a higher tip than they normally would.

Yeah. My SO.

We went eat out last Friday and I left her my card while I went take a leak and wash up. I get back and she tipped the waitress like 30%.

She should have at least invited the waitress back to our place if she's gonna tip that much for average (at best) service.

You should have venmo'd him your share of the bill and left your own tip in cash. If you don't carry a couple of 10's, 5's, and 1's on you, well I can't say it's entirely his fault. You should have picked up the bill.

I usually tip a lot because my dad always has and that's just what I grew up with.

I'm poor, but I know I could not do that job without stabbing someone

Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food, I can drive a taxi, I can and do cut my own hair. I did, however, tip my urologist. Because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.
