That would be a no. The living room is the more formal space used to entertain. The Den is the place where the family gathers to watch tv together(media room). The modern design of one large open space to live and eat is flawed for my lifestyle and needs. There is no place to get away from guests. Need at least two living areas.

our den is split with a 2 sided fireplace..one side is hardwood and the pool table and the other side is sunken den with tv.

Yes. The den is our most coziest part of the house. The living room doesn't have a television. It has a few chairs, couch, coffee table, piano, etc. It's more of a formal setting. That's cool and all, but I think most people call them the wrong things, myself included. I think of your living room as your den and vice versa

I was raised in a huge house off of False River and it (according to Mom) had a "receiving room" and a "living room" Noone ever use the receiving room.

My house now has a formal living room (fireplace, but no TV) but the upstairs landing (which is bigger than the living room) is where we hang out and watch TV, with big comfy couch and tv trays and shite.

Where we put MJ2 last weekend.

Only true "Dens" I knew of were up north, usually downstairs at ground level, and had pinball machine or a vid game or two and a tv.

They way I have always called it is like most others here.

Formal Living room. Our's has the nicer furniture, built in bookshelves, fireplace. It's basically a hall for me.

Our den (wife calls it the hearth room) is basically one huge room with the kitchen. Also has a fireplace. Has a TV and again nice furniture but not as nice as the living room. Most of our time is spent here.

Media room is upstairs. Projector TV with 110" screen and really nice sound system. Finished this room in April and have been spending a lot of time in it.

We had one. And a living room and dining room that were rarely used. Built in the late 60s and there wasn't a master suite. Two fairly large bedrooms but neither with a connected bath. So we converted the downstairs bath to a laundry room with a half bath. And converted the den into a master bath. Double sink vanity, pedestal tub, separate room with a walk in shower and the toilet is in there, and a walk in closet for my wife. Now we use the old living room like a den. Put the TV in there. And moved the dining table to the far end and made a little playroom downstairs for the kids in the old dining room. Sometimes I miss the "cozy" feel of the old den but we actually use all of the rooms in the house now.

We have a den. Useless room really. We keep extra baby toys and the pack and play in there.
