We flew an American flag all summer/spring/fall, only exception was an Austrian flag in June for my grandfather's birthday each year. My parents were big fans of flags.

Come and Take It flag, Don't Tread on Me flag, Bonnie Blue flag, and CSA Flag. That's it though, anything more might be trashy.

Funny this thread started bc I just put up an American flag on Tues. Been wanting to for a while and finally did it. It makes me feel more patriotic when I see it. I plan on flying a Saints flag on gamedays.

I just bought a house and it has a flag pole holder installed on the bricks. Been thinking about starting a collection (American, LSU, Saints) but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'd like to hang the American flag all the time but need to look up these rules you guys are talking about.
What type of fabric should it be? It's supposed to be lit at night?

The Stars and Stripes flies in the front yard of the ultra-left wing liberal Panzer's home.

I don't attribute any extra patriotism to American flag flyers, but it sure does provide a nice sensation when you drive into a nice neighborhood with American flags on every other house.
Maybe it screams "Ok, these are my people," or "this is a Republican neighborhood," but either way, it looks nice and gives off a good vibe.

Only when there is a special occasion. LSU flag on game days in the fall. Marine Corps or American flags on other select days.

I have one from a tree in my front yard and it varies on the time of year. August through January is LSU all week except for Sunday, then it's Saints. After January, it stays Saints until their season is done then usually switches to Mardi Gras. Then it alternates between Mardi Gras and LSU Baseball until after Mardi Gras then it remains LSU baseball until Memorial Day. Memorial day is always USA.
After Memorial Day it remains LSU baseball season until the seaosn is over for the Tigers then it goes USA through the 4th all the way till August when football season starts again.
ETA - USA flag comes in nightly when hung

If flown at night, it should be lit. If it is an all weather flag (poly-knit material) you can fly in any weather. I dont believe the heavier cotton?? flags would fly real well and those are probably best for displating indoors
eta: I think I also read one time that the American flag should be flown to the left side of the door.

Yep. I still try and bring ours in at night when I think of it and when I know we're going to have bad weather (especially if there is a forecast for 7 days of rain), but in the end I like seeing them, and I think the modification of the rules/flag code has made that more of a possibility.
Taking it in in bad weather would mean almost no flying during Summer days in the South, so I don't judge people for that.
I think the overarching rule should be not to let it be in disrepair. Don't put it on a shitty object, don't let it get dirty or tattered, etc.

Stars and Stripes every day except when it's raining. I take it down for the LSU flag on gamedays during football season and also for when it's a Texas holiday I fly the Texas flag.

Yes, American
I have a neighbor he hangs a flag on two occasions
1) If Arkansas beats either LSU or Bama he puts out a razorback flag
2) If a house goes for sale on our street, he flies the Bonnie Blue flag
