Quote Something About Mary. “Each days better than the next…”

I’m another healthcare “whiner”. Finally experienced “money isn’t everything”. I am making more money than I ever have and hate it. The hate seeps into home life. I am physically hurt, mad, and pissy all the time. There is no end in site. I know the pandemic is winding down but dragging into work everyday is slowly becoming too much. The burnout is faster than the wind down.

Somewhat. I’m a teacher, so my work-life balance is excellent. I do enjoy my job, but I’ve learned over the years that as an introvert, hanging out with teenagers all day long is draining. There’s very little challenge in teaching grade school. I do wish I had something to feel ambitious about. But teaching gives me a lot of time to find that fulfillment in other endeavors.

Very similar to me except I also coach football, which I’m going to try to give up after this school year. I’m an avid traveler with no attachments and during summer workouts, 7 on 7’s, etc., in June and July I often find myself thinking, “Man, I could be anywhere in the world right now if I weren’t doing this shite.” And then you have 10+ weekends you have to devote to game prep and 65+ afternoons devoted to practice. Plus, my dad was a high school coach and I played four years in college, so it’s been pretty steady football all of my life.

I have had a good career. I’ve been a part of championship teams as a player and coach and don’t have regrets. But at this stage of my life I would rather do other things with my time.

If i won the lottery, i would gladly not work and find stuff to occupy my time.

Work is something that i have to do in order to pay for stuff, it’s not something that i ever want to do

I work in a Hospital and love my job. I get to help a lot of people without actually having to deal with many people at all.

Walk in today to the mandated booster email. And the e-mail that people are leaving without being seen? Oh no. That happens when there are no beds and no staff to see them.

I enjoy it
It’s not easy, but it’s honest, and I work with great people
It keeps my active a bit, I am a large man
Could I make more money? Maybe.
But I really can’t complain

Sometimes I love it.

The project I am on right now is a killer though. A lot of people are upset because we are working weekends and canceling vacations.

Well I get paid pretty decent to draw buildings/houses, so the answer is yes.

However, I would swap it for a successful singer's/sports athlete's agent or manager, or be involved in the music business overall. That would be a fantasy for me.

I just worked with the man that actually wrote that line …. So working my dream job making films around the world with incredible collaborators qualifies as enjoyment.

You don't count JW, it's not a fair comparison. I hated practicing law for 20 years. I went back to grad school and got two masters in social sciences and am about to start my Ph.D. in neuroscience. I am now a trial scientist/jury profiler, so I get to use my law knowledge without being an actual cocksucking attorney. It's been a challenge starting over but so far it's been very worthwhile.

Do you enjoy your job/career?

This is a great question.

I had a couple of years to find another career. I was working part time in the family business while our kids were in middle and high school. One of us had to be home at all times, so this is what we did. Knowing that once high school was over for the kids I'd go back to work, I decided to do a bunch of investigation and find something that I truly wanted to do and enjoyed.

In my investigation, I interviewed hundreds of people. I asked them what they did, the money they made, were they happy, and lastly would they recommend to someone else what they did. 90% of the people I spoke with would NOT recommend whatever they were doing to someone else. I found that amazing and also highly discouraging.

Ultimately, I went to the Johnson O'Connor Institute and got some clear direction based off my aptitudes. For the first time ever, I'm happy with where I am, who I work for, and what I do. It also helps that the family business is being run by my wife and it's doing very well.

It’s all relative. I tolerate my job. I don’t think a job/career is meant to make you happy.

“Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”

No. That’s not realistic. Do what you are good at and people will pay you for it. Then you can use that money to build a life that makes you happy.

I enjoy playing golf, travel, drinking beer with friends, taking the boat out. No one is paying me for that unfortunately.

Some people claim they love their job or love what they do. I would ask if they were worth a billion dollars would they continue to get up each day and do it? If so, then they do truly love it.

yep

I enjoy coworkers, and love the scenery where I work but when I can do without, I will not miss it a bit.

Probably the case for LeBron James as well.

For 99.9% of people it’s not the case.

Enjoy my career? Yes.

Enjoy my position/job? No.

IT is the most thankless position in the corporate world. And it's slowly becoming the most "corporate" and bureaucratic I can think of. It was the last white collar/light blue positions in the office that was free of that team building bullshite and it's slowly creeping in.

I'm moving into more of a government position down the road and at least that'll give me peace of mind that I'm working towards the collective good of the state/federal system as opposed to mindless corporations.

Those of you that are miserable or hate your current company/boss, what is keeping you at your current miserable job? You should have no problem finding another job with companies throwing the kitchen sink to hire employees.

Work from home, lots of down time between issues, working security in IT is pretty cake until shite hits the fan.
