Do you discuss your salary with co workers???

Lately a few of my counter parts have openly came out and disclosed their salaries with me. It is that time of the year when we are due our annual raises and people are trying to determine how much they should try and negotiate for. Me personally I would never disclose my salary to those I work with, but there a few people who I do. Would y'all ever discuss it with your peers to gain leverage with your boss?

No, because either they or you will get pissed off. Some companies even have a policy about discussion your salary with other employees.

No. In a lot of companies it's against company rules.

Don't have to, they already know how much of a baller I am.

20 years ago it was much better strategy than it is in today's climate. It's a big bone of contention to HR more than anything.
Wise man taught me in 1994... there are 2 people you MUST be best friends with: IT and HR.
Still holds true.
I'm self-employed though so screw it, do you.

We don't, it's against company rules to do so. But I think that rule is in place so they can get away with paying people too little more than for the reason of causing animosity among employees.

Great way to get fired.

Always ask for 10% and negotiate down.

Only one, but it is because she is one of my closest friends.

The lack of transparency means power to the employer. Good for your colleagues on fighting the power.

that is probably illegal
I have done it, and sometimes its a really bad idea and sometimes its not.
It can be very useful if you are peers so that the lower paid person can get a raise. But it can backfire, as it can create people being pissed off.

Same here but they don't care. One time it was three of us and one guy axed (I'm black) the other guy and myself how much we made. The other guy got real offended and said that's against company rules to discuss that. The other guy replied it ain't against the law tho!

What I feel my services are worth is between me and my employer. If someone can negotiate a better deal with an employer, should the other people be mad at the commpany, or themselves?
