I don't consider it with food as animals will eat it, but I do throw it off the road and not where cars can smash it.

I did the same with the same though process, until I was told about the birds/hawks. If you like birds, stop throwing food out the window. There are always hawk carcasses along the shoulder and I always wondered why. Someone told me and I haven’t thrown food/scraps out of the window since.

Think of the animals some raccoon aka trash panda comes for your top in the road and some kid is driving home from a football game sees the coon and doesn’t want to hit it swerved to avoid it flips and gets killed or injured. Toss it off a bridge into the water if you are gonna toss and drive.
