Same here. I leave for work around 5AM and not many people on the road. One light in particular takes forever to cycle and you can see for days both ways. So it gets treated as a stop sign in the mornings.

From my limited time as a calcasieu parish civil engineer, I've gathered that speed limits are initially set by surveying traffic and observing average speeds, and rounding down accordingly. Of course there are other factors like number of lanes, medians, shoulder width, etc.

Then the real part takes place: locals bitching about people driving too fast and demanding the speed limit gets lowered on "their" road.

East Baton Rouge's former Mayor-President lowered residential speed limits to 25 to collect extra ticket revenue.

The neighborhoods on either side of that stretch have lined the correct pockets to get that speed limit. Their bullshite reasoning is that it's "one neighborhood" with a "pool area" so it needs this speed designation for the north side houses to get to the south side pool. Y'know despite there not being a single fricking crosswalk. Total joke.

Yeah it’s absurd. The sidewalks are at least 30 ft from the road with a significant ditch between them. And there is rarely foot traffic and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone crossing bluebonnet. I’m guessing 99% of people who live on the other side of bluebonnet from the pool and use it, drive there.

I used to date a girl that lived down there and saw way too many cops posted up to speed down that way too. I make sure I’m 38 or below and set the cruise. But it does feel like you’re walking down it.

There are some traffic signals in Ascension that won't change unless your car has a certain mass.

My motorcycle does not have that mass and you'll sit there for a very long time in the heat or rain (yes, I ride in the rain sometimes) unless you run it.

Sorry for holding you up.

Infrequently, if there’s a stop sign where there’s literally no one in sight, I may slow through it and not stop.

The OP and responses is why I installed forward and rear dash cams on all my cars. Yall will definitely lie and say “Oh no officer! I was being a perfect defensive driver.”

Combine that with 73% of Louisiana drivers being uninsured, I also carry 2M UM coverage

“Mattress tag”

My wife would never cut one off.My wife, bless her heart, has never broken a law or rule in her life.I have tried to explain to her it’s ok to cut the tag off if you purchase it.
If either of us were bleeding to death and rushing to the hospital at 2:00 am
and we came to a red light and not a car in sight she would insist we stop and wait for it to turn green.
I have come to a red light late at night with no traffic and the light was taking too long to turn green so I went through it.You would have thought I had murdered a small child, her reaction.

When I took Child Psychology the professor talked about our education system, how it discouraged creativity and critical thinking skills. The emphasis was on rote memory and compliance.
She used example of coloring exercises in lower grades, children that stayed exactly within the lines got highest praise from the teachers. She would’ve rather the kids would get a blank sheet of paper to draw whatever came to their mind.

The wife starts her bullshite I tell her “I bet you always colored exactly within
the lines”.

I feel like that attitude is a thing that, mostly, only men have. The "I know better" attitude. Most of the time, I don't even know that I'm doing it, it just happens.

Yeah...that undermined the credibility of the post a bit. Anyone who has been married for any significant period of time knows better.

Rules that make sense must be strictly adhered to, and anyone who breaks them is an a-hole.

Breaking rules or laws that seem retarded is my solemn duty, too.
