You need to know your history. Israel was created by secular socialist Jews from Europe. Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews are the biggest free loaders on the planet. They get exempt from military service and they get paid to study to be rabbis.
Both secular and Orthodox Jews were critical to the founding of the nation... where did I say otherwise?

Ralph have you read Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah?
I've read Isaiah a lot and a little bit of Ezekiel and Jeremiah. A common theme is that the Messiah will come and when Israel turned its back on God bad things happened like the Babylonian Exile. Bad political events happened to the Israelites not because they turned their back on God, but because of the usual political machinations of Kings, rulers, etc. Kings made bad military, economic, and social decisions that got Israel invaded, conquered, and so on.
The prophets were about coming back to God and not about political victories.
But the Messiah is not about the politics of nations. But the Israelites and many Christians got it wrong. The Messiah was never about political fortunes or good times and bad times for nations or a country or group of people.

I seriously doubt the God of Abraham is a vengeful god. Does Franklin think God will now start punishing us?
It's pretty clear in the Gospels that God doesn't work that way.
Romans 12:19
quote:
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Well we will have to disagree on the historical record. The modern State of Israel was a secular construct by mostly European Jews who believed in a socialist Israel based on the ideas of the Bund.

That's not Jesus. That's Paul writing a letter of what he thinks God will do. Paul had an axe to grind. Even though he is thought of as writing to the Gentiles he also wrote in a way to win Jewish converts. Jewish converts who were still mad about the Roman occupation and wanted political power. I don't see any record of Jesus in the Gospels calling for vengeance.

You are saying that Orthodox Jews had no role in Israel’s founding!?!

Central African Republic
Republic of Congo
Ghana
Liberia
Malawi
There are probably more, but these are the first that come to mind.

That is rich... so you are picking which books of the Bible are legitimate? Paul’s writings should be ignored?
What about Jesus and the money changers in the temple?

You actually doubt this?
Kenya, South Africa, DR of the Congo, and Nigeria.
You really think whether a country is Protestant or not has significant bearing on their economic success?
African and Latin American countries in general don’t do well but that’s for plenty of other reasons.
Most of these European countries that are technically (because a lot of them don’t actually practice the religion but still identify as such) still Protestant having been seeing declines in religious numbers. Then you have a country like Japan or South Korea that are certainly not even Christian.

People have been trying to get Jesus involved in political matters since his time. I think he said his kingdom was not of this world.

I mean, it's an opinion. There are lots of those that I disagree with more.
He does a lot of good in the world but he's not perfect. Neither was his Pop.

In one of Billy Grahams sermons he said something along the lines of, if the US political system is based on Gods kingdom then we're in trouble.
To many Christians are consumed by politics.
