Do you acknowledge receipt of emails?

My coworker asked me to start acknowledging receipt of a lady's emails
I've never done this because I don't like getting thanks or got it emails
Is it proper business etiquette to acknowledge receipt of emails?

It depends who the email is from. If its from a coworker then I don't. If its from a client or one of our agents I will send a response so they know I'm working on whatever they sent me.

tell them if it's so important to acknowledge something, tell them to add a read receipt acknowledgement. That way they get their validation without you having to do anything.

You know there's a little box you click that says "don't show me again"? That way they get the receipt and you don't have to do anything. At least on Outlook.
