I spanked my daughter twice and my son maybe 5 times. Never needed anything other than that

Kids are 10 and 6. Never spanked them once.

Example: the kids started this point system where they would get points for chores, being helpful, listening etc. I have no idea what they were worth because we would just cash them in every now and then for some bullshite off the dollar aisle at target.

One day the daughter decided to give me a fit at breakfast - I wanted to spank her hell she probably deserved it. Instead after she ate what she was supposed to and apologized to her mother for acting a fool I told her to go get a wet paper towel. When she brought it to me I made her erase these points off the chalkboard that were essentially worthless to me but to her were worth more than gold.

Way more effective than a spanking.

Probably twice a month for 4ish month stretch with our first son, but it's been a little while. We made the whole spanking process a big event that let him know how big a deal it was to get to that point. The physical part was barely worse than our rough housing, but he knows now to tighten up if we mention spanking at this point.

It's how my dad did it. I don't ever remember being spanked, but he did it. He said by 4, we knew to not get that far.

If you have two kids who are in trouble for fighting, tell each of them to find a switch for you to whip the other kid. They will each find the meanest stick you can imagine.

There is a huge difference between hitting and spankings. I have spanked my child before, but never hit. Also, the spankings don't need to be extreme. Just enough to get the point across that their behavior was unacceptable.
