I used to spank my son when he was 3. He's 10 now and I don't have to.
My stepdaughter is also 10 and was never spanked. She's sassy, lazy, and tells her mom "no" often. My wife says she's going to smack her (in the face) one of these days. The girl definitely needs a jolt to the system to put her in check.

Some kids need more than just a time out IMO. You let them walk all over you when they are little and you are in for a world of trouble when they get older.

Step parents should never ever spank their step children IMO. No man better ever lay his hands on my child and I wouldn't feel right hitting another mans kid. Leave that up to the biological parents

It is not lazy and it is effective, though.

I'd love for one of the "it's lazy" people to give me two scenarios, one without spanking, one with, detailing how they think it goes, so I can point out the straw man you are obviously tearing down by calling it lazy.

Depends on the kid. Its like coaching a team, not all kids respond to the same type of discipline or motivation.

That is kind of my point.

Spanking them, gives them a slight bit of physical pain, and then it dissapears.

Taking something they love away, can last for as long as you want it too.

That is the real world. When we screw up as adults, we lose things valuable to us.

That is the lesson I want my child to learn. Not, inflict physical pain to get what you want........

I am not a snowflake and dont mind parents that chose to spank, but to me it just lacks logic.

False. All kids cry when I tell them Santa is not real.

Alot of the parents I see spank, are too lazy to deal with a crying/fussy child when they punish them and take away their favorite toy, or make them leave the playground etc etc

It is easier to just spank than actually try and parent........

This is not all scenarios, but it is one I often see

I get this for 3 or 4 and up, but a 2.5 year old is going to get over pretty much anything in 30 minutes. Hard pat on the rear end or taking their favorite toy won't matter. Hell, we take away toys and give them back 3 months later and they think they're brand new.

That's fair. Spanking can be a lazy option, but that's not always the case.

Agreed. So why go the physcial route if it is the same at this age?

Agreed. I have friends that do it and arent lazy. I have no issue with it, but the logic just isnt there for me.

So, like everything, spanking CAN be done in a lazy way.

I've seen people just choose to ignore the kid, or let them "express themselves" rather than spank. Both are lazy, and both are the worst examples of the form of parenting. Not sure how logical it is to broadly brush either method with the worst examples.

Because I'm lazy.

On a serious note, we've done both and do both. Depends on the action, but I'm not really sure if anything they've received constitutes corporal punishment. A pat on the arse while wearing pull ups is more of an attention getting move than anything else.

You are right there are other ways to be lazy.

I just cant find any logic behind how spanking is better for their future/more effective than discipline from taking something away.

I am not saying you are a bad person for spanking, I simply disagree and think you are doing it wrong

Which you think the same about me

Of course. My argument is not that spanking is barbaric or evil

It's all part of the process. Tap on the arse, explain what was done wrong and how to fix it, apologies to affected parties, an "I love you", and we move on.

I don't think you're doing it wrong. I actually think it's stupid to have that opinion without knowing a hell of a lot more details.

I probably do the same things you do depending on the situation. We aren't talking about a pounding anytime he spills milk or hits his brother or talks back to mom. Like I said earlier, my oldest has been spanked maybe 10 times in 3 years. I wish that was as many times as he's done something wrong.

I did a few times. I think 3 is to young. Plus, instilling a little fear in them is not a bad thing.
