I have met a few Nigerians. Always seem like nice folk to me.

Lol, I was talking with a chick who works for a very liberal part of the US federal government and we were talking about a American-Nigerian man who had applied for a position for something and she said something along the lines of "those damn Nigerians are so hot headed and insecure I can't think of a job that they deserve in the US."

It had to do with people from Nigeria have to be in command and if someone doesn't do what you want, they can't handle it. They don't react well to situations where they might have to deal with public matters

I was shocked that she actually said that.

I've worked with Nigerians. They are nice but a complete pain in the arse. They seem to love to give monologues about about the most trivial things.

Nigerians are generally lazy and scheming. Lagos itself is terrible and not safe for expats. Port Harcourt and Wourri are far worse and you need military escort to move around. Victoria Island in Lagos is where all the company offices are located and where the expats live so it is considerably safer. Abuja is the capital and is a preplanned city and pretty modern. But it is located on the border of Muslim and Christian Nigeria which is a hotbed for violence.

Most people don't realize that the southern part of the country is Christian and the north Muslim.

It's a shitty country and I hope I never have to return there.

Nigeria is pretty evenly split between Christian and Muslim.

Nigeria is a time bomb.

Hugh country with lots of ethnic groups, plus a corrupt government, add hugh discrepancies in wealth, and multiply by oil money and boom goes the dynamite.

Nigeria is a very interesting county, it's government structure is very similar to the United States and is more developed that people might expect.
The largest Nigerian airline (Arik Air) can't seem to actually do anything remotely reminiscent of keeping a schedule. The government just took them over. I'm sure that move will drastically improve things. When the airline cancels a flight, all of their personnel leave the airport.

From a BBC (the news one) article last Friday:

Arik Air regularly cancels flights due to not having fuel, actually had them hold a flight for 30 min by giving someone $20 for chop chop.

"A Wreck" Airlines does not sound intriguing to trust with my life.

If I'm ever on the ground in Nigeria, a plane either crashed there, got hijacked to it or had to make an emergency landing there.

Insert "nope, nope, nope" gif here.

Lagos isn't in the Muslim part of the country. That's more northeast.

The structure is modeled on the US, that much is true. There's a president with executive power and a legislature tasked with authorizing money, that sort of thing. Not sure their judiciary has the ability to overturn either though.

The level of development is okay if you're rich but the amount of poverty is still pretty mind-boggling.

Contrary to popular opinion Nigeria is not a clearly majority-Muslim country - it's roughly a 50/50 split with Christians.

Been there several times and it rivals Mumbai in poverty and squalor, but yes there are lots of people there.

Been to both many times. Mumbai has 4 or 5 times the population of Lagos. Unbelievable.
