Ideally SU should have been put on a process of merging with LSU beginning in the 1970s. Make SU a college within LSU where the goal is ensure students who enroll there get their remedial and general education and some freshman and sophomore level courses in their major done so they can take upper-level courses in their major at LSU.

It's a predominantly black school. Blacks typically don't do well in school. So a black with a degree from a black college screams unqualified.
What's hard about this?

No I get it. The point is that the graduate didn't know even the most elementary of terms in his profession.

I think the issue at hand is that HBCU (ironically enough) have the same mindset as small predominantly white colleges regarding their schools.

They are very protective of them. They want to do it their way.

On a side note, I recently discovered Elsa Jean. I now know why you like her so much.

Around 10 or so years ago in Mississippi the state wanted to merge all of the HBCUs into the Jackson State system and merge Mississippi University for Women (who does accept men) with MSU. There was a backlash to either plan even though it was probably a good idea.

In my field, employers don't really care where you went to school IF you can prove you aren't an idiot.

ExxonMobil-Baton Rouge loves Southern grads, sometimes to the tune of 75% of an operator hiring class.

Some employers, mostly the gov't, or other idiot liberal companies, hire under qualified people over more qualified white males so they can have a cool diverse picture to post on their website. These employers like Southern for the most part. They typically don't care that much about making a profit.

Most employers want to actually make money, so they want to hire the best person for the job regardless if they have a dick or not, or if they have a tan or not. just do your job. These employers typically dislike Southern b/c they've come to the realization through past experiences that the majority of people they hire from that university aren't ready for a big boy job. So they just throw their resumes in the garbage when they see Southern, much like most large corporations would do with someone with a university of Phoenix degree.

Why didn't you just buy your degree from SU like a normal person.

Baton Rouge already has a community college.

Don't you need a process technology degree for that?

SUNO has forever destroyed the academic reputation of SU and I do not believe that can be resurrected to be quite honest.

Most plants want that, but the Southern Industrial Engineering degree gets plenty hired there.

Technically you do just by attending and passing classes.

You can't fail unless you just aren't trying.

Southern is a horrible school. They graduate accounting students who can barely explain the difference between debits and credits.

That is pretty telling. The CPA exam should be very very easy if you have an accounting degree plus business related masters for the 150 hours. All you have to do is study for it.

Dumb statement.

CPA exam is in no way easy. That's why there is a 40-50% pass rate nationally. Even after putting in excess the 120 hours of studying the top study programs recommend, it is not "very very easy"

However the 20% is awful...

Louisiana as a whole is usually near the national average

If employers are unhappy with the Southern University System, then why do so many people get hired to work in different utility, oil/gas, and construction companies.

If this is true, your entire post is invalid.

Southern has it's role. Now SUNO on the other hand, with it's 9% graduation rate needs to GTFO

Considering that there are at least 3-4 HBCUs in MS, you probably had people from Alcorn and Mississippi Valley fighting hard against consolidation because Jackson State would be the system and would likely retain control of the pursestrings.
