Cracked molar, unbearable pain. Went in and he referred me to get a root canal. I

dealing with this now on a molar in which the filling and part of the tooth broke off

thankfully it didn’t expose the nerves

dentist just filled it but also told me that there’s not much layer between the filling and the nerves so i might feel some sensitivity

if it gets worse than i suppose root canal is next step

im just really happy there was no pain involved

that type of pain was unbearable last time out and don’t ever want to deal with that ever

My dentist does everything other than root canals, which he refers to endodontists. And I respect that.

I've had 2 root canals done by a "one stop shop" and both of them we're poorly done, ended up becoming infected again and I had to have them extracted.

He does his thing and says I have a badly cracked molar.

Get a consult from the endodontist but if it were me I would skip the root canal and do the extraction. I have had two molars where a root canal was performed. Both teeth post root canal cracked and both recieved a crown and then were extracted due to infection in my jaw. You will end up spending money that could be used for an implant.

In 2019 I was in this type of pain, went to a dentist office, dentist made staff stay late to put me in a position to where pain was tolerable. This was a Thursday night, came back Monday to finish it off.

Sounds like musical dental chairs.

I had a similar one with a wisdom tooth. The dentist told me I needed to see an endodontist to see it could be saved.

It was a wisdom tooth so I cancelled the Endo and called my dentist back and had her remove it.

Maybe it's a legal liability thing.

Yeah, my nerve was exposed and I don't think I ate much in those few days. I would take NyQuil gel tablets, cut them open and squirt the gel all over my tooth to soothe it.

Might be too complex for the dentist. Not all of them are good at the same stuff.

My dentist did a root canal, he was clearly annoyed the whole time at how difficult it ended up being. Being a dick to his assistant etc. I'd have laughed if I could.

He actually did a great job though. But in general endodontists have been worth every penny.

How common knowledge is it that you shouldnt wash your mouth out with water or use mouth wash after brushing your teeth. That leaving the flouride toothpaste on your teeth is very beneficial. I feel like no one has ever told me that and i have been brushing wrong all these year before recently being told that by someone at a bar. Now switching mouth wash to during the day/morning instead.

Endodontists are worth every penny. I've had one root canal. Utterly painless. When I got back to my dentist, he looked at the x-ray he just took, chuckled and said "damn, she's good".

If I need another root canal in the future, it won't be done by a dentist.

You likely have different insurance coverage for dental benefits and medical benefits and the water can get muddy when you’re talking about oral surgery.
