A month or two of Cobra is cheaper than the new $6500 deductible if you know the doctors you need to follow up with are out of network on your new policy.

If I wanted to read this I would go to reddit

Just a casual mention of a foot problem his wife encountered running through the airport, with a nonchalant conclusion of a toe amputation.
This fatass couple has a strange normal.
Yea, I feel a little bad for him. Not a lot, because $6500 seems like a hell of a bargain for all the extreme shite they need done.

quote:Yep. Most people would shite themselves if they had to get their own insurance. Pre-ACA it wasn’t that bad, but since they crammed that down our throats individual rates have skyrocketed (they all have, but companies can somewhat insulate their employees from the sticker shock).
Because said employer pays for a good part of the insurance and said insurance company pays for your medical bills.

This guy sounds like an unlucky moron. Probably just needs to off himself.

His deductible isn't 6500. That's their max out of pocket. That's not bad. Probably a 2k deductible.

O thought Obamacare was supposed to fix all of this.

If someone gains 50 pounds of water and doesn’t notice, I would be willing to bet they are over 400 pounds. That is 23 kg, which is 23 liters. Imagine having over 11 two liter bottles of extra fluid buildup in your body and not know it. Along with being oblivious to his diabetic neuropathy.

There is zero way I don’t enact Cobra and take care if it undervthr old plan. I also figure out I have gained 50 lbs and have no sensation in my toes

I have severe neuropathy in my feet and while I don’t feel hot or cold I can tell you that I pay attention to where I put my feet and I check them daily.
The guy in the story is a moron.

No sympathy.
This isn't the case of some childhood leukemia/cancer getting screwed over.
This is a morbidly obese unhealthy individual who's upset that it used to cost him $250 the take care of his unhealthy issues and now has a deductible of $6500 due to change in employer(a bargain given his known health issues).
I mean it sucks that we have so little choice in healthcare plans not tied to the employer(who are fronting the majority of the premiums), but this guy isn't the anecdote or example you want to tout around on why we should change.

Eh,
Who knows what his cobra premiums were ($1-2k)/month maybe. So pay 12k a year for the old insurance or meet his new deductible quickly and be done.
Given how unhealthy he seems to be as well as his wife, prolly makes more sense to go ahead and max out his $6500 plan and go from there.

On 1/1, the sale of my company closed and we officially had new owners. I also officially lost all of my doctors because the new employers don't do Kaiser in Oregon. They do it in WA and CA, but each state has to be negotiated and they never had presence here.
So this is the part I don’t understand. Did the guy have no information that his insurance was changing after the new year? Presumably he would have hadn’t to enroll in the new program way before 1/1.
I guess it’s one of those things you forget about when you have open heart surgery, but the guy had to be home for 2-3 weeks after the operation. And doesn’t think to start figuring out his insurance situation until 1/2 when he no longer has the same coverage?
Just seems like he could have done more to help himself through the situation.
