At least one branch of my family owned slaves way, way back.

My mom's side of the family was most likely here before the revolution.

I know for a fact that William Edmunds owned slaves. Born Oct 16, 1776 in Virginia. Died Jun 21, 1863 in Kentucky.

No slaves that I know of, but I have no idea. My grandfather and his dad helped a young black man escape south Mississippi in the 1940's. Small town of Hazlehurst, MS. He was falsely accused of a crime and the witch hunt for him was on. They got him into the woods with supplies to get him as far away as he could. He spent the next 50 years living in Michigan. Came back to Mississippi in the 90's and came over to visit my grandfather. Told all of us grandkids the story, and then helped us build a swing in the yard. He past away a few years later, and it was one of the only times I saw my grandfather mourn.

Yes, and they had to pay taxes on them. They were fed, clothed, and housed. Just the way it was back in the 1700's.

So, no slavery possibilities in my family.

Except that you live in a country that was built by it. But nice try.

My family never owned any, but I come from a lineage of slaves here in America. I’m Irish.

My family has ties to slavery in particular my grandmothers parents. She rarely talked about it but she grew up working cleaning houses and working farms for whites. My mom also did that while she was growing up. They experienced the racism that people THINK they encounter now. Beyond all their experiences my grandmother and mother both obtain jobs and bought property (all after the civil rights movement). I cant imagine living in that time, that had to be awful. My grandmother went half her life not being able to vote. She passed earlier this year and I wish I couldve have her back just to hear her voice ad her stories..

Dad's side yes. Mom's side walked the trail of tears from South Bend to Oklahoma. My maternal grandmother was born in a mud-hut on a reservation and didn't have a birth "date"
So my reparations charge should balance out.

My dad's dad died when he was 3, from Chicago, all German, have come across a few old family pictures with Nazi symbols on the back, so I'm almost certain I've got that in the family tree.

As far as my moms side goes? Closer to slaves than ever owning any, Irish/Scottish.

You should stop then. Being a racist will eat you alive. So will pandering to another set of racists.

Broad question is too broad, the correct answer for almost everyone in the US is affirmative.

Did your family have insurance or were they at any point covered by reinsurance from Aetna? (The answer is yes)

Twenty years ago, Aetna admitted that in the 1850s they wrote policies to pay slave owners a benefit if their slave died.

Personally, in my family tree, I know of no direct ancestor who owned a slave. American records from the 1600s to the end of the Civil War are not complete so certainly some of my earliest American progenitors could have held or been associated with holding slaves.

According to the 1850 census/slave schedule, some of my family owned slaves. One of my ancestral lines was slaves.

I'm willing to bet that another ancestor of mine also owned slaves. Francis Gilmer Browder (born 1843, died 1926) was a Confederate soldier. He died in his cotton field when a low flying plane hit and killed him.

My great, great grandfather was a very wealthy plantation owner. He had many slaves, but freed them all upon his death. He was extremely wealthy, but cashed in for Confederate currency, and died penniless, other than the property. It absolutely did not benefit me at all.

My ancestors did own slaves. It's been documented. If they ever get around to instituting reparations, I'm fricked.
