doesn’t sound pleasant.

Had one friend of mine. She and her husband lawyered up. They were both in finance so she said look, we can either waste $50K on lawyers or figure out a way to keep it between ourselves. So they worked out their own property agreement and submitted it to court. Of course, most people don't have the education or sophistication for that.

Exactly. Glad you agree.

no, if it’s over treat it like a business transaction, let the lawyer do the lawyering (you’ll be doing grunt work, gathering documents,) and do not try to do your own side negotiations

Did you try PIIHB? The OT tells me that solves all problems with women.

Get your own. Keep it amicable. Agree on stuff and have your lawyer make sure it’s somewhat fair for you. Especially dealing with kids you don’t want to mess something up. You need your own lawyer that only has a duty to you.
And remember, you’re the boss. Your lawyer is not in charge. You are. You make the calls.

Luckily we have Louisiana’s premier strip mall divorce attorney. While he’s not filing 103 divorces, he’s spewing leftist conspiracy theories and coping with severe TDS. He’s the one you want to hire.

My question is does it go better with both parties using the same lawyer or should I get my own?
Your relationship has ceased, you need to protect yourself for your future. At this point you need to assume your soon to be ex-wife will act in her own best interests, and plan accordingly.

lawers do not want you to talk to one another. the more you agree, the less money they can bill.
they want you to hang in there much longer than you need to before settling.
it's a simple equation.

True if you’re self-representing. Not true if you’re hiring an actual attorney.

nope, the lawyer works for you, period

How smart is she? If she’s a dumbass you can do a lot of the legwork by negotiating with her and her attorney. My ex spent thousands and I spent zero representing myself. The numbers are what they are once you figure that out there isn’t much left to it.
