re: Disney's ABC is pulling Jimmy Kimmel indefinitely after Charlie Kirk comments (update)

Kimmel is/was a joke. Few people (mainly progressives) even watched him anymore.
I wish the FCC hadn't said anything and let his show fizzle out. ABC wasn't going to renew him beyond his current contract, which ends next year. Now they made him a "free speech" martyr because people like DallasTiger55 have no idea what free speech actually means.
The FCC really had no standing to do anything so any statements they made were toothless but ABC and its affiliates used it as cover to dump an underperforming show ahead of its contractual end date.

Agree. It was headed for the trash heap regardless...

Oh the left will ABSOLUTELY use this to their advantage. Jimmy Kimmel will start some podcast and have an insane following for the first couple of months before it crashes and burns and no one listens.
This is why I personally don’t give a shite about what any of these people say or do. It’s all games and business decisions. Listen and follow the people you actually give a shite about opinion wise and frick the rest

His comment was so idiotic. Why are some people so desperate to paint the shooter as a Maga nut. What logic would it make to kill someone whom you agree with.

Everyone is dodging the question on how would you feel the FCC forced Fox News to pull Gutfeld and Biden celebrated it and wished for every conservative to be cancelled.
Double standard. You don’t have to say anything because we all know how you’d feel
The FCC didn't force this.

lean right and can’t stand Kimmel but this shouldn’t get anyone fired.
He knowingly lied about a political assassination on tv. And this wasn't his first time being batshit crazy.
I also think his ratings played a big part in this.

The reason the left is melting is because they get their talking points from people like Kimmel.
With fewer people to tell them how to think, they'll struggle.

This is the problem. They are doing some good things but sometimes the Admin talks when they should be silent

I've always liked your insights on here, even if I don't always agree. You seem like a smart guy. I'm going to consider this arrogant, condescending horse shite as a one-off and continue to hold a good opinion of you because I think you're better than that.
I'm sorry if you view it as condescending. I think it's extremely unlikely that all of your left-leaning friends are good people, or even most, and that most are genuinely bothered by the Kirk shooting.
My broad, lengthy experience dealing with left-leaning people of all varieties, intensities and identities would indicate that's not true.

It's a form of confirmation bias. Most people agree that people who assassinate non-violent people are bad people. Most people cannot take deep looks at themselves and see flaws, so they assume evil must be different from them. In past times, different from them took the form of religion or region, but in our politically charged environment, now it is MAGA vs Liberals for a huge portion of American society. Ergo the person that did evil must not agree with me, so they have to be the other side politically.

The state, through the FCC, pressuring a company to silence someone is antithetical to American ideals of liberty.
Did this happen?

Again, what would you have said if Biden wanted the fcc to cancel Gutfeld or the FCC pulled him? You’d still feel the same way, right? Sure
Again, there is minimal evidence of any impact from FCC opinions here.
Also again, Biden quite literally got mad at the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs and used the DOJ to target peaceful abortion protestors, including, but not limited to, showing up with FBI HRT to a completely normal pastor's house for a raid.
"We should hold to this concept regardless of whether we'll lose ground doing so and with full knowledge that it'll be used against us" - Ok, I can accept this
"We can't do _______ because it has some arguable appearance of impropriety and the other side might do ________ (something they're probably already doing without hesitation" - Dumb

Yes, because “retarded Facebook boomer comment” was such a compelling initial argument.
You idiot.

"Allegedly" but I don't believe it.

Suggesting you know people in my life better than I do because you know their political affiliation is incredibly condescending. That’s not even a hot take, that’s just what the word means.

I've said for a long time that late night shows have a huge influence on American thought.
Thankfully these shows are getting dropped for one reason or another.
Craig Ferguson was the last night show I watched. He seemed to be able to be entertaining without interjecting bias.

I'm not sure that's true, but I can see where you're coming from.
If I asked you to believe that no conservatives in my life joked about Paul Pelosi thing or were glad about the RBG vacancy - I'd be asking you to believe a highly unlikely thing. That's how I view your representation.

I would be against it if true. I am assuming Jimmy makes good money show is expensive and late night is dead. Probably a good exit for ABC?

Key phrase here
Of course some conservatives joked about that. Keith Olberman, for example, is a terrible person, but he’s also not my friend.
If you told me that no one in your circle was happy about a man dying horribly in front of his family, then I’d defer to your truth on that experience because I have no reason not to.
You know them. I do not. If you say they’re good people, then I have zero basis to dispute that.
Voting red doesn’t make you a bad person. Neither does voting blue.
There are plenty of frickin awful people who vote both.
This isn’t controversial, or at least it shouldn’t be.
