"Cultural appropriation" as a negative thing is such a ridiculous concept. What kind of people take that seriously?
What can there be to be offended about?

You know what, my daughter enjoys Doc McStuffins. Am I now a bad parent for letting her dress up as Doc? I mean, god forbid my daughter have positive influences from people that don't look like her.

You know, all this crap started around the time I graduated high school in '00. Pretty sure the class after me stopped keeping track and recognizing Top Ten and valedictorian/salutatorian. I mean, we don't want to offend anyone. This is when you stopped keeping score in Tee Ball, and then coach pitch. My brother coached baseball about 5 years ago, and the kids just don't give a shite about winning and losing. Getting curb stomped by 20, no fire. Nobody upset.

I really thought this movement would get squashed. I really thought people growing up without learning the value of hard work would be in for a rude awakening once they got int the real world. But how wrong was I? Holy shite, the same parents that raised their kids to believe everyone's a winner are now running shite and continuing it in the real world. Cant tell someone the truth because they might be offended. Cops hate black people. Don't agree with me? You must be a racist/ homophobe/ bigot/ sexist.

Why do I bother working hard? Why do I bother paying my bills, and trying to save my money, and being able to say I worked for everything I own? I'm a middle class white male, and my success is just due to my "privledge". Why bother raising my daughter to believe that you control your station in life, and your decisions have consequences? Why teach her how to deal with failure, learn from it, and turn it into success? She'll be labeled "insensitive" the first time she tells another kid to suck it up, or pull their weight.

This country needs a Purge

Apparently "marginalized" groups must always be offended because it's the only way they feel they can stay relevant.

Disney knows who is more likely to protest with their dollars, and it ain't white people.

White people just look at this and go "omg, that's so dumb" and then happily spend all of their money on either the alternative costume or the next Disney movie.

the difference here (I think and don't take this as me taking up for this nonsense) is that Snow White and other white characters, their race is not part of the character or story...if that makes sense?

I think.

Maybe.

Cultural assimilation is not only a good thing, you can't stop it. It happens whether you realize it or not.

I've always thought White people don't identify based on racial similarities. We identify primarily on shared values.

Explains why "White" isn't ever a topic of character story.

(this also has a lot to do with the fact that we are not a minority in our country)

I was just coming post that I guess my little girl can't dress as Doc for Halloween. She loves that damn cartoon and if the world wasn't so fricked up she could grow up never even knowing a difference between a white , black, Mexican, or Hawaiian cartoon Character

The thing is, if this costume had white skin, they would've been called it "whitewashing." There's no appeasing them because their only goal to to be a victim.

Or they could just not do a film depicting any Polynesian at all. Oh wait, but then they would face criticism for "never giving our children strong role models that look like them to look up to. Why do all Disney princesses have to be white?".

I get that you are trying to see this from the other viewpoint and I applaud the effort. That is how progress is made but her quote in the post above seals it for me. Instead of being excited about a movie centered around her culture (When was the last time a Polynesian movie was made?) she admits she was totally focused on how this would be bad. She was just waiting to complain about something. I would be excited about kids demanding their parents take them to Hawaii next vacation and the boost in tourism that would benefit my people. Not sure if she would rather no one ever talk about her culture or if she wants total control over any depiction of it. Hint - people aren't flocking to theaters to watch a two hour documentary on the historic struggles of the Polynesians.

Disney makes costume for shirtless character with tattoos for kids to buy: Disney is wrong for allowing kids to preted to be another race.

Disney sells just a leaf skirt as part of the costume: WTF Disney, you cannot have just a plastic skirt for a Halloween costume.

Disney makes no costume: Disney is racist because they make costumes for white characters, but not for characters of color.

This is the MF'n country we live in today. There is zero winning, these companies need to nut the frick up and tell the whiney lil bitches to go suck a nut, and if they don't like the costume then don't buy it. How pathetic is your life that complaining about every little thing and trying to find malice in a kid's costume from a cartoon is the biggest thing you do?

Yet, it's OK these days to allow children to pretend to be the opposite sex.
