So if a teller gave you too much cash, would you return it?

Like others said...they will likely just say to keep it.

They did that when they sent 2 $200 wrist dive computers to my husband by mistake a few years ago.

I would because I was a bank teller years ago and a mistake like that can cost them their job.

how much was it?

idk, i would probably mention it to them.

it is their fault though and they probably won't expect you to do much about it.

Absolutely, people do make mistakes with cash handling and I don't want to be a jerk.

And OP I'd let them know even though they'll tell you to keep it.

No.

If a teller can't count, they shouldn't be tellers.

Obviously not a real dilemma. You offer it back and see what happens.

It's a test. See, they sent you two to see if you would do the right thing. If you call them and tell them they sent you 2 then you will be rewarded. If you keep it and don't say anything then bad Karma is coming your way Merry Christmas

If you tell them, they'll probably just tell you to keep it unless it came from a private vendor

Just email customer service. Most of the time they tell you to keep it.

They may have gotten more proactive about this stuff but I've emailed them in the past about such mistakes and they told me to keep it

I ordered a Fit Bit and they shipped me 2. Do I:

A) return one of them and get a refund
B) tell them that they shipped 2, return it and get no refund
C) Keep it and re gift/sell the extra to someone.

"Theft is the misappropriation or taking of anything of value which belongs to another, either without the consent of the other to the misappropriation or taking, or by means of fraudulent conduct, practices, or representations. An intent to deprive the other permanently of whatever may be the subject of the misappropriation or taking is essential."--Louisiana Revised Statutes

Good news! If you keep it, posting this on the internet is good evidence of intent to deprive, which is essential in the crime of theft.

So, are you a thief or not?

I did the online chat thing with amazon help about 2 weeks ago when they double shipped some wine glasses. The lady thanked me for my honesty and told me to keep them. Conscience is clear and I have extra glasses.

Do the right thing.
