I don't want to scare him. Esophageal cancer is only the case in maybe 5% of all of these cases. The majority of the time it's acid reflux causing the strictures. Simple dilation normally takes care of it.
But the doc did tear my esophagus last time and it put me in the Lady of the Lake for 3 days.
It's IMPERATIVE that you religiously take the Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix, or whatever you take. Don't half arse take it like I used to and end up in the ER after not being able to swallow for 12 hours.

No difficulty swallowing but after I eat it feels like something is caught in my throat and I cough for a while. Endoscopy's are normal. Gastroenterologist says instead of 3 meals to nibble 5/6 times a day. Been on esomeprazole / nexium for 15 + yrs for acid reflux

What they do is stretch out your esophagus. Dr. Jason Reina ( gastroenterologist)has done mine three times over the past two years. . He is an excellent Doctor in Hammond. Same day surgery

It comes and goes with me, usually happens if I don't drink something first in the morning or my first bites of a meal if I haven't eaten in a while.
Sometimes I can drink and get it to go down and sometimes I have to basically push it back up my throat.
It's extremely annoying, I mentioned it to me PCP recently but he had no answers.

Crazy shite. I've gone to a Dr for similar and they think it's a combo of reflux and allergies.
Never restricts my breathing but just takes a while for food to go down sometimes. Can feel it when it dislodges and goes down.

I had that as a kid until I was 30. Went to a gastroenterologist and had my esophagus dilated.

I had to have my esophagus stretched twice for this. It's caused by acid reflux according to my Dr. I've been on medicine for reflux and haven't had any problems. It's an outpatient deal, in for 8 out at 10.

That's how mine started. Mostly happened when I ate meat and rice. I also belched alot. When my 3 tear old son followed me outside to see why I was throwing up I figured it was time to get to the Dr.

I had this condition about 4 years ago. It finally got bad enough I went to my primary doc. He sent me for a barium swallow, which is some of the nastiest shite I've ever tasted. Next I was sent to a GI doc who scoped me. Wasn't bad at all, as they doped me up with Versed beforehand, and I did not remember anything about the procedure afterwards or actually even the couple hours post-scope. My esophagus was inflamed so they put me on a regimen of omeprazole for a month and that cleared it up. Occasionally I have the problem again and I'll do a two week cycle of the omeprazole and that knocks it out. Citrus, tomatoes, and chocolate seem to be what triggers mine and unfortunately, I enjoy all three. At least beer isn't off limits

For two years. In my case associated with lung issues. See your physician and they will likely administer a x-ray/contrast (?) test to view varying densities of swallowed fluids. From thin liquid (water), to more denser.
There is a little flapper (not scientific) valve in your esophagus that prevents swallowed things going down your bronchial tubes into lungs. If this is your cause, you must address it. Internet diagnosis is not going to get it.
No cure...tongue exercises and other stuff.
Hope that's not your case.
PS: Getting old sucks big time, but like my golfing buddies tell me...beats the alternative!
PS2: If dysphagia, you would typically have severe coughing associated with it.
PS3: Nothing in other responses, other than this one is associated with dysphagia...at least to the best of my knowledge.

I have GERD. It can cause esophagitis, which can lead to scarring of the esophagus. This can make a structure in the esophagus.
They just had to change my medication and stretch my esophagus last week. It is quick and easy.

Steak, chicken, rice, and shrimp are the worst. I also have to cut up pills really small.
It's extremely embarrassing too. I've almost vomited on countless restaurant floors, and it always seems to happen when I'm with a group of people or on a date.
After what everyone has said, I'll ask my doctor about it next week. The VA should have me fixed in 3 years.
Make sure you chew your food a ton, and have lots of liquid available. Also, one thing I've learned, ALWAYS know exactly where the bathroom is at every restaurant you dine in.
