Also, my GI told me mine was an allergy and not caused from reflux.
Fwiw I'm 38 and have suffered with it for about 5 years.

That happened to me a while back and I'm not old. Turns out it was just reflux and I take nexium now. Hadn't had a problem again

MIL has esophagitis and has her esophagus stretched once a year. She also takes protonix daily and all of this seems to help.

I couldn't swallow large pills. Doctor dilated my esophagus as part of an endoscopy. No more problems. He said I'd probably have to do it every 5 years or so, but that was 6 years ago and no problems. I do take a heavy duty antacid every day to try to hold it off.

This happens to me all the time. I've lived with it for 15 years. It's caused by acid reflux burning your esophagus causing it to narrow. When did gets stuck it feels like I'm choking. The cure is Nexium every day and getting your esophagus stretched via sleeve or balloon by a gastro doctor. You can email me with any other questions.

My father had this problem. Turned out he had esophageal cancer. Good luck, hope this is not the same result in your case.

I took Exedrin for a headache about 10 years ago and it stuck in my throat. Found out I was allergic to it. Anyway about two yrs ago everything I ate stuck in my throat to the point I was choking on the food almost every meal. When I threw the water up I was trying to down it with I could still breath up to the point my spit got in my windpipe and threw that up. Sometimes food stuck in my throat for up to 10 minutes. It's miserable.
I had a scheduled colonoscopy and saw a pamphlet about esophagus issues and asked about it.
Turns out I had scar tissue building up in my throat from the exedrin pill I took. So every time food stuck it made the scar tissue build up worse.
They stuck some balloon thing down my throat(thinking something like they do for heart blockage) and it fixed the problem. Doc said I'll probably need to come back to have it done again because it was real bad and likely will come back to some degree.

Esophageal stricture. Have and egd with dilitation. Takes 15 minutes.

Don't mess around with this and get it checked out. You may need an endoscopy. My dad had this same problem along with a long history of heartburn, reflux, etc. Ultimately...they found two tumors inside his esophagus...malignant - aggressive esophageal cancer. They believe it was caused by his cronic reflux, etc. Diagnosed in July - died that December. He was 57. That was 31 years ago.
I have the same reflux issues and have regular endoscopes because of my dad. Again...don't mess around with this stuff.

Yikes - I have this at least every other time I have a meal and have just been telling myself it's because I eat fast. It's quite painful and some times I'm tempted to gag myself to throw it up and make it stop.
