No, but I suppose a RB or WR isn't going to want to sacrifice that spike and lose traction in their cuts. So, not illegal, but not really practical for most football players.

It’s football season. I’ve not contemplated buying special cleats for it...IDK. I don’t see the difference in what’s being asked physically. Run, cut, run.

different spike configuration especially near the toe.
Football cleats allow extra spike(s) at the very front of foot. Soccer does not.
I'd also want some more ankle protection in football due to bodies crashing into the side of your leg near your ankle during tackles and blocking

They do vary quite a bit depending on field condition (turf, hard ground, normal, soft/muddy)

if turf it will be better. if the team plays on grass you may need a little bit more spike coverage, the more round peg type spikes

As long as the shape is the same. I didn’t know if football cleats were flatter than the soccer ones.
