I was on the SuperClubs national team and we did an England tour. Let me tell ya, he should want to trade HS football for that experience.
Not knocking his decision at all, but those were the best 3 months of sports I’ve ever played.

It's hard in the south east to get a scholarship to a big time college program. Played with some absolute ballers and only knew 4 that got scholarships at some good places (Clemson, Wake Forest, UCF, and Boston University). Mostly D-III scholarships were awarded. DIII colleges are great but absolutely dead end as far as playing the sport goes.

Don't know about current, or early 2000's soccer, but in the 70's we couldn't wear steel spikes for football. We did have some that had steel tips on plastic cleats that the coaches let some guys wear in the rain.
Looks like they still make them.
Ours were longer than that and white plastic. Pretty sure they were longer than regulation.

Soccer cleats can be used for everything.
Baseball cleats depending on age with have metal spikes, but younger kids can wear soccer cleats just fine.
Football cleats are different t depending on position. The skill position will be typically be lower than linemen.
