Moved to Texas but quickly realized that Texas is nothing special at all. It's plain and boring. I'm kicking myself for not living in California, NYC, Alaska, Hawaii, or Florida for at least a short while.

Real louisianans cook better than 99% of anything restaurants have to offer.
I agree with this statement. My job has me traveling all over the US and I had the opportunity to dine in some really nice restaurants. Most don't come close to what friends and family can prepare in Louisiana.

1980's.
Louisiana economy was in the toilet.
Everyone moving to Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston.
We took off to Washington D.C. for five years.
Built up our resumes and experience and moved back once the economy was returning.
I highly recommend living elsewhere for at least a few years. Makes you appreciate La.
Also nice to be a success somewhere where you don't know a soul and are unfamiliar with the territory. A great confidence builder.

I feel like it's the opposite for me. Moving away made me take notice of a lot of things LA needs to improve on that I never realized living there my entire life.

I guess you've never lived in a town where everyone knows your name and you know theirs. Where everyone is in your business
Honestly, this is something I didn't miss when I moved away from my home town. I didn't move out of Louisiana, but I moved from Lafayette to New Orleans about 2 years after graduating. One of the great (and shitty) things is that people in New Orleans typically don't give a frick. People in Lafayette (and other small cities) give too much of a frick about what you or I am doing. Mind your (the collective, not you personally) own fricking business. Okay, I'm off of my soap box

Well, I went to college in 3 different states, none of them Louisiana. And I've lived in 11 different states, Louisiana for the longest time. I can't even imagine living in the same place all my life. It's certainly been interesting and I would not change it.

Not only did I leave Louisiana, I left the United States. Came back home five years later, though.

Damn, how old are you? I always assumed you were a youngster based on your DC fanboy antics on the movie board

Need to start researching restaurants soon as well
Are you staying in L.A.? I'm not much of a foodie, but I do love Preux and Proper in downtown. Breakfast at the Broadway Deli on 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica is fun.
L.A. is freaking huge. Need to know where you'll be staying, if you're renting a car, etc.

Won't have a car - just going to use Uber/Lyft.
Description of the location from AirBnB:
"Located across the street from the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Hollywood/Wilcox and 0.5 miles from Hollywood/Highland & Dolby Theater"
Hopefully that makes sense to you, because it means nothing to me

Leave. Your friends will be here if you decide to come back.

Check out The Pig and Whistle on Hollywood Blvd. and the bar at the Roosevelt Hotel.
There's tons of stuff to do down there. You can walk lots of places during the day and Uber at night.

Yes, the job market was a piece of shite when I got out.
It sucks not to be around family but other than that La is not that great.

Moved away for three years, then moved back for 13 years. Left again three years ago. Miss LA but the opportunities for me were much better out of state .

I travelled a little bit while in college and now I can't wait to get out. There's just so much more out there to see and enjoy.

Yes. Graduated in 2006 which was right after Katrina. Moved to Houston like a lot of LSU grads. Moved back to Louisiana a year later and rode the oil boom for 10 years until I was laid off last year. Moved to the KC area because there wasn't much or any gainful employment in the Lafayette area. The KC area is bleeding jobs and great for raising a family. If we move back to Louisiana, it will be after we retire. My wife cooks pretty damn well, so I don't miss the food.
