The difference between magnetic and paramagnetic is paramagnetic substances lose their magnetic properties away from a magnetic field. Whereas magnetic substances retain their magnetic properties.

The oxygen molecule is attracted to magnetic fields due to its four unpaired electrons. See below:

Here is a gif of liquid oxygen attracted to magnets:

In the gas phase oxygen does not lose its paramagnetic properties, it's just that in the gas phase the speed of the O2 molecules are too fast for even strong magnets to attract O2.

I didn't even know paramagnetic was a word, much less it's meaning or that oxygen was it.

Ah frick. Paramagnetic is going to be the next woke term applied to whiteness, isn’t it?

Looks like the Klan is trying to intimidate a bunch of us brothers.

Oxygen is racist!

This is just a white privilege outburst. I couldn't hold it in any longer.

If an oxygen molecule magnetizes in the woods and no magnet is around to magnet it, is it even magnetic?

Big deal. Frogs are diamagnetic and will levitate if you apply a large enough magnetic field.

I didn't know this. Cool.

This shithole of a website still learns me something occasionally.
