yes, no

I grew up with AC and all vehicles I remember had AC. I heard stories though from the parents and grandparents about the olden days. A lot of time spent out on the screen porch. When he was a kid in the 1930’s my grandfather said he would sleep out on the porch on an old army cot on hot nights. I guess it doesn’t bother you as much if you don’t know what you’re missing. A lot of houses in Australia don’t have central ac/heat. The five years I spent there we only had ceiling fans, box fans, and a window unit. I got used to it pretty quick and except for a few hot as hell days it’s wasn’t so bad. In the winter we just wore an extra layer, and a pot belly fireplace in the living room that actually got pretty toasty.

No and no.
It was open every window and turn on all of the fans.

Yes to both. But my aunt and uncle in Bay St Louis did not.
A couple bedrooms had window units. All us kids slept on the front porch.

Grew up in Pittsburgh, house didn’t have A/C. In the summer I’d either sleep on the couch in the basement or we’d pile into my parents room and sleep on the floor since theirs was the only room with a window unit. My parents got central air after I left for college.
First car was a Pontiac Grand Am from the early/mid 90’s. By then most everything had A/C. I was in school at Alabama when I got it, no way was I going without A/C in it.

No to both.
Parents ended up getting a window unit for their room, then my sister got one and I was the last.
The attic fan was great.

Mom would turn on the AC on June 1st and turn it off Labor Day weekend. We used an attic fan the rest of the year.

House yes, car (black on black 66 Stang) no. In Charleston SC. Remember AC was out for a few days while my dad (who could fix anything) waited for parts.
Grandparents in Nakatrash parish never used their AC for the weeks I stayed w them as a kid, except the one Sat night when the preacher came over for dinner. You get used to it.
How old are you? Did you all have window units? Or nothing?

Born in 1979. Our first house didn't have A/C or heat and we lived in that house until 1988. I remember winters were brutal and my dad said when we were sleeping, you could see the frost come out our mouths. None of our vehicles had A/C until my parents bought a new car in 1992.

Yes on the home, no on the vehicle.
Did not have central A/C though.
Would position my bed according to the season. Move over by the window unit in the summer and by the door to catch the heat from the floor furnace in the hall during the winter.

No and no. I recall our first TV. We had a battery operated radio you better not turn on or my grandmother would tongue lash your arse.
Same with phone. Not allowed to use it. My grandmother was convinced there was a meter down town at the South Central Bell office that started ticking when you picked the receiver up.
On Saturday, my mother would unass a $5 bill, send us to the barber shop, then we'd go to both walk in theaters in town which were "Air Condiitioned" according to the signs out front, and we put in about six hours watching movies and acting as fools. Poor Mom often said she made us go to the movie to not only get us out of her and my grandmother's hair but it was too damn hot for us to have to suffer.
And, after all that, my oldest brother would return about half of that $5 bill.

No x 2. Grew up in NJ. Moved to BR in June 74 in a 67 Impala with black vinyl top and black interior. 45 and 33 rpm records warped during the trip. Fortunately it died in January 75. First new car had anemic A/C

My great aunt lived in a 100+ year old house that never had AC or heat. She lived to be 105. Needless to say when grandma wanted to go visit during summer…frick!
