My brother took care of bedridden mom for the last two years of her life. At inheritance settlement time, I gave brother my share 25000, because of his committment

My ex pretty much took care of any chance of that.

I just hope I am not left with a bill.

My mom passed last June 2022, dad had been gone 16 years so she held everything.
My sister and I had no idea but we both received $225,000.00 in cash (CD's), School System Retirement and Life Insurance.
We also just sold her house and received another $97,000 each after all fees/commission.
And we still have 33 acres of land we are going to hold on to for the kids or whatnot
Old school parents who lived a simple life, drove modest cars and lived in the same house they built in 1968 for $36,000. My mom played broke until the day she died.

Nope.
My parents didn't get any from their parents. I won't get any from my parents.
I am trying to set up a trust for my daughter but I don't want her to touch it until she's 40 when her lifestyle and more frugal spending habits are already established.

I haven't ever gotten anything. My wife did get an interest in 1280 acres of oil producing land from her dad's family. Her kinfolk won it in a poker game 120 years ago.

Yes my wife and I have received financial gifts from family, especially from her parents.
I plan to do the same for my kids.
Because I can

Whenever I call my dad and ask him what he's doing his response is, "Spending your inheritance"

No on inheritance. The wife will probably get around $100k or so if my guess is right she her parents were pass.
My kids will have college fully paid for by us. We save early and often for that.

I'm sure I will when my parents die

I’m surprised at how many parents buy their kid their first car, house, school, etc.
you're surprised parents buy teenagers cars and pay for school? Why should that be surprising or even weird?
Each generation of my family has put the next through college. So basically, you pay it forward when you are financially able and don't put the next generation in debt right out of school. We have college savings accounts for our kids so we will be able to do the same. Everyone ultimately has paid for college. They just do it later in life when they're not poor.

My wife had a great uncle that left us a bit and some for my kids education.
I'm a homebuilder. What I plan to do for my 2 boys is build them a house at cost. Teach them how to do that every 2 years, build and sell. Do this until they have no mortgage.
If I can do that, and they can follow through, they should be set if they are smart.
My wife and I are insured with whole life policies for 1.5 mil apiece. We plan on using that as part of our retirement. If something happens to us before then, they will start out with 1.5 apiece.
Obviously we are setting up a trust so it will be managed properly.
