Did anybody in BR ever call the 383-0000 number and listen to the pre-recorded "pro wrestling update" from Dave Hernandez? Good memories man

I sure as hell did! I wasn't even a fan of wrestling by that point, but there was something so old school about it that I'd occasionally call and listen to his spirited rants about Eric Bischoff and DDP.

what happened to Dave Hernandez?

Called into the Advocate line religiously and listened to his radio show on Saturday mornings on 1210. The good old days!
Always wondered what happened to Hernandez as well. Anybody know?

My dad ran a store during the Midsouth days in Morgan City. He met quite a few wrestlers, including the Undertaker before he was the Undertaker.

I didn't call the WCW but I did call the Jose Canseco 900 number back in high school several times. He had a recorded message talking about what he had for breakfast, what his workout was going to be and what baseball stuff he would be doing.

I called the WWF number maybe in 1990 before one of the Wrestlemanias. Ran up $200 in charges I think.

No, but Marcus Alexander "Buff" Bagwell used to have his cell phone number on his personal website. I called it at about 12:00 AM one night and some sleepy guy answered, "hey, this is Marcus"

One of my cousins wrote a letter to a wrestling magazine in the 1980's. it got printed and the writer or old wrestler answered his questions. It was the highlight of one pre pubescent summer. Lol

Now that brings back memories.
I used to call the WCW hotline. A cousin of mine and I ran up a rather large balance on his moms phone bill.
Does anyone remember WWF during Saturday Nights Main Event after a wrestlers match, they would go backstage and call a fan who mailed in a postcard as an entry fee.
I had gotten a call from Marty Jannetty during his feud with Shawn Michaels after they broke up the Rockers.

Back when Sgt. Slaughter "joined" GI Joe in the mid 80s, with all the GI Joe action figures sold at the time there was a little piece of paper advertising a 900 number. It was .50 a minute.
Curiosity got the best of me and I called the number and listened just long enough to hear a recorded Sgt Slaughter say "Hey dudes, this is Sgt. Slaughter!" I hung up immediately.
About a month later, my mom is asking me and my siblings about a strange .50 charge. I'd honestly forgotten, so I spent the next half hour basically blaming my sister. My mom would not let it go. She called a family meeting to attempt to get someone to confess to making the unknown call. It was only .50 and my mom usually isn't obsessive about this kind of thing but she would not let this one go.
Me, my two brothers and my older sister sat in the living room while she lectured us about making charged calls without permission. Nobody was owning up and it was lingering on. Finally, it hit me..."oh crap! It was me! I called fricking, Sgt Slaughter!" I tried to get my mom to let it go but now it was pissing her off that nobody was fessing up.
So she picked up the phone and dialed the number on the phone bill and a look of confusion came over her. She hung up and said "who in the hell is Sgt. Slaughter!?!"
My brothers instantly turned to me, the only consistent wrestling fan in the house, and gave me the most disgusted looks I've ever seen them give.
My older brother said "you paid to listen to a message from Sgt. Slaughter? Gay!"
Once my mom realized it was a harmless message line, she didn't care. But I carried the embarrassment for a while. Then in the early 90s Slaughter joined the Iraqis and I had to relive my nightmare all over again.
