The bombing of Japan thread got me thinking, should we have just declared war on the Chinese instead of Japan?

Should've launched a preemptive attack on California.

You do understand we didn't declare war on Japan until after they bombed Pearl Harbor right?

China wasn't full blown Commie yet. They were in the midst of a civil war when Japan attacked in the 30s and the two sides joined together to fight the Japs.

Yes.

And we should have teamed up with the Germans. We’re basically Nazi Germany, at this point in our nation’s history. Why we waited 70 years to get here doesn’t make sense.

After Hitler killed himself we should have rearmed all the German POWs and fought the Soviets. You could argue Stalin was way more evil then Ole Adolf

This is dumb as frig. You have no idea what the situation was at the time of WW2? China wasn't much of anything until Bill Clinton gave them our $.

You could have gone with saying we shouldn't have allied with the Russians, but it was necessary. Maybe we could have pulled off what Patton wanted to do at the end of the war, but it wasn't politically expedient.

They mostly still just fought each other while avoiding the Japanese whenever possible. Joseph Stilwell was the US general in command of China-Burma-India and he had very little respect for Chiang Kai Shek. Chiang and his generals stole everything in sight and his army was essentially useless. The Communists were more disciplined but they played the long game waiting out the end of the war so they could take over the country.

Well, obviously in retrospect we should have just nuked every other country on Earth during that small span when we were the only ones with the bomb and ruled as gods over the radioactive mutants that lived but what can you do?

Hindsight is 20/20 and all that jazz.
