The best academic institution in La. was originally University of Louisiana when founded in the 1800's but after a large donation they took the name of the donor, Tulane.

Tulane started as the university of Louisiana. They went private after a large donation by a guy whose last name was Tulane. The state let them keep the land and not pay taxes with the stipulation that congressman and city officials could control and award their own scholarships among other things

Then they need to fire their PR and Marketing department, because anyone outside of the Louisiana state border knows them as Louisiana-Lafayette or ULL.

I don't know why we would need 2 colleges in this state. Most of us roughneck or fish for a living
The easiest way to fix it would be to rename lsu to Texas training academy

I disagree. ULM has some pretty big wins over a Saban coached Alabama, a top 5 Arkansas team, and gave Aggie all they wanted a few years back under that brand. I guarantee that every Bama fan knows exactly who ULM is personally since the program went to DEFCON 5 in that loss. ULM has a huge identity with that name and strikes fear in the hearts of other water ski teams.
