1890's.

And it is still USL to anyone that graduated between '60 and '99. The controversial (to USL) branding to ULL came in 1999.

Correct. The "University of Alabama" branding referencing the flagship institution in that system and the headquarters of the church of Alabama

What you fail to understand is it was named "University of Alabama" from long before there was any thought of a "system" of campuses. It was given its name when it was still basically a glorified one building high school.

You seem to be suggesting that I've argued that the correlation between "most competitive" and/or "flagship" in the system is somehow causation in the branding.

"University of [state]" branding traditionally represents the most competitive school in that system. With that you've inferred a bunch of nonsense about branding, to which I stated clearly that "no", I was not saying that.

It has always struck me as odd there is a Louisiana State University but no University of Louisiana. I can't think of another state that has done this.

Pennsylvania. Penn (University of Pennsylvania) is private. Similar to how Tulane was originally the University of Louisiana.

Seriously? The "S" in LSU should stand for Snowflake. Just look at this thread. They're obsessed with other universities' graduation attendance, facilities, coaches... You'd think that they'd be focused on the other SEC schools. Nope.

Your second paragraph contradicts your first one.

Tech is a top tier school (like LSU) and the highest ranked in the UL system,
true that, unfortunately it's located in Ruston

I think UNO could do a much better job than they do. It is really just a commuter schools many of the students went to another 4 year university for their first 2 semesters before moving back home and transferring to UNO. Or 3rd year transfers from Delgado or Nunez Community college.

But there are a couple of school in the UNO system they are respectable. I know for sure the Naval arch & marine engineer is look up upon. The college of engineering in general. the civil & environmental engineering, along with the Mechanical..... it's in a good location, it's fairly priced. You would think they would be able to attract a few good students.SUNO down the block needs to be MOAB'd #doe

No it doesn't. But you knew that.

University of [state] branding is traditionally applied to the most competitive flagship institutions in that system.

I never suggested when the branding is applied or why. You have. My statements are an observation, yours are an incorrect inference drawn from my statements and a misrepresentation.

If UNO wasn't such a depressing commuter school, I would have strongly considered going there. It's just so... bleh.

It's not a bad school. Like a lot of things in this state, it could and should be better.

It rustles Jimmie's bc there 4-5 other UofL system schools.

By and large, these are all well established historical monikers and not really akin to "branding." Which is what makes ULL's continuing "branding" efforts seem so lame.

Louisiana has to do things differently, and usually worse, than the neighbors.

In this paragraph you try to claim you have not drawn any connection to a school being given the title "university of__" and being "compedative and or flagship". Then in the very next sentence you say...

quote:

"University of [state]" branding traditionally represents the most competitive school in that system
