Did Suburu Once Try to Make a Marketing Push into the South?

Recent thread on here had me thinking, there was a really memorable Suburu jingle back in the day. I initially thought it might have been attributable to The Mandela Effect, or that I had misremembered it maybe. However, a Google search revealed that it was, in fact, a thing but little else about the concept.
Considering the Suburu brand has become synonymous with the Pacific NW, anyone remember the deal with this marketing idea? Certainly this wasn't a local or regional spot since I was familiar with it even in Louisiana.
Heh. Edited to fix thread title.

My grandma had an ST6. That was a weird little car.

I know the street racing ones have some pull from the car folks
But the normal ones are pretty terrible. I don’t wear tevas sandals either so i probably wouldn’t like them at all

I read this while pretending your were referencing lesbians and it made me laugh.

I find their stigma very interesting. We have a few neighbors that drive the crossovers and they are terrible looking autos. They are also the quintessential "gay" "coexist" "bernie bro" "grab em by the ballot" type folks; yet they make arguably one of the best offroad/rally cars. Really an interesting spectrum of owners/drivers.

The old WRX STI was a little rocket.

Don't really know why anyone outside snow country would want one.

A family from Little Rock moved into our New Orleans suburb neighborhood around the mid-1970’s. They had a kid my age so he became part of our peer group. His dad was a VP, or something similar, with Subaru and the son said he was sent to the area to help Subaru break into the Louisiana market. Toyota was starting to be successful but the AWD Subarus just didn’t resonate with folks in Louisiana. The son was a big fan of Subaru and talked about all the technical advances the company was responsible for, etc and even he was frustrated by the lack of sales. They moved back to Little Rock after about two years.
One cool thing was they had a rotating collection of 2 or 3 new Subarus and got a Brat for a period of time. We rode around in the back and thought it was great.

It's really strange that those weirdos buy a good car when they are so emotional about the rest of their lives.
It's a logically smart purchase. Especially if you live in snowy areas.

I used to work with a guy that drove a Subaru and we used to hate on him all the time. Called him a lesbian, told him he only does it because he wants to take care of the environment and called him a hippy. This was during the Subaru push to show how much they cared for the environment.
He finally goes, "just because I drive a Subaru doesn't mean I give a shite"

I work for a Subaru dealership in Louisiana and I was like man these cars are ugly but over time I’ve slowly thought about getting one because of my discount and being able to get parts cheap as well as labor rate for maintenance. I’m fighting the urge though!

They have good dog commercials and Darryl Waltrip sells them, so I’d drive one before I ever drove a POS Nissan.

I went to Vermont in October and it seemed like one out of every 10 vehicles were Subarus. But yes, the west is full of them.

My family owns a Subaru dealership. Consumer Reports rates them high in Owner satisfaction, reliability, dependability and resale value.
