Weird considering they were raised by women who would literally weep and pass out at the sight of Elvis or the Beatles
But we had Dads that would beat us senseless if we complained about Mom loving a fatass in a jumpsuit.

Worship isn't the right word.
Kids who liked (actual) music in the 70's and early 80's were jaded. Adoration that had been the norm in the early part of the previous decade for each wave of the British Invasion had petered out. You wouldn't see blatant worship for a music idol again until Michael Jackson.

Rapture is still a pretty cool song and she threw in a Fab 5 Freddy shout out

"Fapped to" is more accurate.

I wouldn't say worship but if you were close to the stage you might see her snatch.

Yes. They were huge.
Hits like;
Dreaming.
Call Me.
Heart of Glass.
One Way or Another.
The Tide is Hide.
You're pretty big when they make a doll after you.
and she was on the cover of every magazine back then.

The thing that factors in here is that fandom is totally different today than in the 70s and 80s. There was no 24 hour news cycle where popular artists get airtime just to fill needed space. MTV was in the process of changing how artists became popular. But its impact wasn't fully felt yet. There was no internet to have on-demand information and pics of your favorites. There was no social media. No TMZ.
Because of this artists were not constantly on stage. Monthly fan magazines were the way people got information. Official artist fan clubs were prevalent.
All that to say, the "worship" of a hot artist was not nearly as prevalent or as public as today.

Madonna is a bad joke now, but it's impossible to overstate her iconic status in the eighties.
Blondie had several hits, but they were an underground group for a long time before they ever became popular.
Truth here. Everybody liked Blondie but that popularity started before MTV, so appearance wasn't quite what it is now. And Debbie Harry soon became as big for her heroin habit as her voice.
Nowhere near Modonna status, ever. She was quite lovely, though.

# of those songs were off of their best album, one was of a very popular movie sound track and all were between 1978 and 1980. They were a "hot group" but did not have the staying power that iconic groups/artists have had. Shooting star, so to speak. I think drugs may have cut their time in the spotlight short, though. I did like them, they were good.
