That’s correct. Doesn’t mean that they have to force you to buy food. Seems to only be happening in Nola
I don’t even care that much since I will buy the food. Just seems stupid

It’s likely a private rule by the business. Make everyone buy some food or else you have a bunch of people that don’t and you end up becoming a bar.

Yeah they are all doing it. Several have told me the city mandated it. It’s not just one. It’s all of them.

Ironically, under the Stay at Home Order when restaurants could only offer to go you could just buy a drink and no food. Makes no sense.

before all this, it wasn't legal to purchase alcohol to-go at all here.

Yes it was. Up until yesterday you could walk up to any place that was doing curbside take out and just order a drink and no food.

Even before the pandemic you could walk up to any bar or restaurant and order a drink to go and no food.

I don’t see why you just can’t continue to do that. It’s stupid.

Oh my bad. I thought since this thread is about New Orleans and he didn’t say where HE lives, I assumed he was talking about New Orleans

The Czar has struck again. Checking with Fire Marshall, a bar patron has to order food to be served. No sitting, stools, are allowed at the bar. This is only in NOLA, it is not a state mandate. Most of my watering holes have decided it is not worth the hassle, limited to 25% capacity. It’s a long road back and afraid many will never reopen.

They’re doing it so they don’t get shut down. Bars that sell only drinks can’t be open.

Alcohol without food is a bar, and bars aren’t open right?

This is the reason. It has nothing to do with protecting you from Covid and everything to do with picking and choosing winners in the economy. They’re doing the same here in Monroe it’s not just NO. If a bar opens they have to bring your drink to you with food, you can’t sit and order food and have a drink while it cooks. Ridiculous

I don’t think that’s accurate

It makes sense for the business that if you are going to have to restrict the number of people in the business, that you are going to want to make sure the people that are allowed in are spending as much money as possible by also buying food

Food was optional at Tchoupyard yesterday. They did give us a few bags goldfish though.

They are using their brain. That's the way to do it.

Of course they had to register with the fire marshal to open, so let's hope Destroya's soldiers don't show up there and fck it up for them.

Seems pointless. I'm not going to go through all these hoops to go to a bar. Just going to wait this one out.

I don’t have time to search through his actual mandate but:

LINK

quote:

The governor said the following types of locations will be allowed to reopen Friday, with a limit in place of 25% of their normal capacity:
Bars and breweries with a Louisiana Dept. of Health food permit

The following types of businesses will remain closed:
Bars and breweries without LDH food permits

I’m pretty sure I’m right on this and in order to stay open they have to serve food with the drink.

A

I can tell you for a fact, the bar and grill places in Metairie are not making you buy food.

Nola is forcing the places to do this. It's all so damn stupid.
According to the original thought on how re-opening was going to happen, Nola had good enough numbers that they could have been in Phase 1 around April 20th.

Destroya is just too stupid to see the big picture.

Yeah I know of a few places outside of New Orleans that are not making you buy food with a drink.
