Did not realize New Orleans is making you buy food with alcohol

How is that protecting me from COVID? Wtf. I was not legally allowed to enjoy a delicious ice cream daiquiri yesterday without ordering food to go with it. How very un New Orleans.

It’s definitely bullshite.
Wrong Iron, for instance, has to work as a restaurant. Assigned tables, “reservations”, waiters and hostesses, you have to order food with your drink.

How do you know it’s illegal? What’s the statute?

Sounds like you got taken by a business.

Copying Utah?
quote:
Locations defined as a restaurant under Utah law require that any alcohol be ordered along with food (though they do not have to be ordered at the same time), and can sell alcohol from 11:30am – 1:00am.

I mean, before all this, it wasn't legal to purchase alcohol to-go at all here.
They removed that restriction and mandated food be purchased too. So what?

Then why would they just push a $1 bag of chips on me? If they were going to take me I’d assume it would be for more than that. The $1 bag of chips they told me I had to get with the drink I had assumed was a loophole. But maybe the girl at the counter just wanted to get every $1 out of me

You don’t understand and that’s ok

Alcohol without food is a bar, and bars aren’t open right?

It’s likely a percentage. Bars are usually something like 60% of sales from alcohol. I don’t know if they will be audited, but they are probably doing what they can to maintain a majority of sales from food.

What the hell does forcing people to buy food have to do with keeping them safe?
And for reference, in Jefferson Parish where the same bar and grill places are open, you don’t have to buy food to have a drink

Are bars open? I don’t know, in Florida they aren’t. That’s my point is only restaurants are open.
The difference is usually distinguished by the ratio of food to alcohol sales. I don’t remember the difference but it’s something like 60% or more of sales from food then you are a restaurant.

I’ll admit the whole thing is confusing as shite

In Florida they are putting small high tops up against the bar and they serve drinks on the tables. You are basically sitting at the bar and drinking

I thought places could only be open if they had a food permit.

That’s correct. Doesn’t mean that they have to force you to buy food. Seems to only be happening in Nola
I don’t even care that much since I will buy the food. Just seems stupid

It’s Latoya y’all, nothing she says makes sense

Bars that serve food are allowed to be open. But there is nothing in the Gov’s order requiring patrons to buy food.
However, apparently NOLA is forcing this on places because they are all doing it. I promise you, I looked into it yesterday.
Bulldog is probably the best bet...
