Parable of the Rich Man...

To the OP, only my church and my relationship with God got me through the greatest loss in my life in 2020...and again, later.

Absolutely. Not as much a big rock bottom as general lows here and there

Just always remember that religion and your relationship with God are two separate things. Sometimes the religion we adhere to will leave us unfulfilled or disappointed. God will never do that, ever.

I've recently started reading the Bible again after decades of spiritual neglect. I'm amazed by how much more meaning I find in the words all these years later.

There's too much evil in the world now. I felt like it was time for me to choose a side.

You keep close on that narrow path. It will continue to get better and better as you age. You will have disappointment for sure, as we all do, but there is only one way brother. It is with God. I wish you the absolute best and as a fellow Christian I am proud of you. I have someone very close to me that has recently made the exact same journey and is in the same situation as you. You are not alone!

I think things get better when we finally surrender, throw our hands up and ask for Gods help. It’s when we finally realize that we can’t control everything and open ourselves up to Gods plan and His will, that things become better. I could be wrong, but I think that is sort of what I’m hearing. It’s very liberating to sincerely admit to yourself that you’ve made a mess of your life and you need help. And when we accept what happens as God’s will, it becomes a lot easier to deal with disappointment and tough times.

Just don’t ever go back to that old way of life. I was there and I was completely hopeless but thank God I found a way to sobriety. I caused a lot of collateral damage and some may never be repaired. But life is much better now and I will never go back!

Great for you. I left the church for 7 years and, after a divorce, went back.

Turned out religion was and still is a core value for me, but it wasn’t for my ex-SO. Led to a bunch of other issues when core values don’t align. I hope my ex-SO is doing great, but not my place to help. Luckily didn’t have kids, so no reason for me to know.

I’m now happily married to someone who has the same core values as me, and God is back front and center.

Happy for you, and I second looking into ACTS retreat or even silent retreats at Jesuit retreat houses (which are around the country).

I’ve always been a believer but years ago I faced a big life-changing event. I spent about 2 hours in a cathedral ( I’m not Catholic) and came out knowing I could handle what I would be facing. 30 years later, everything has worked out.

For new believers and longtime believers I highly recommend CS Lewis and I strongly suggest this channel. Oddly enough when I clicked on my Youtube account to share this this video was the next one in the queue.
I was going to find another one because of its age and the war it was referring to.
Still, I paused and thought that maybe the reason people are seeking faith right now is because it is another type of war, this one far more dangerous and far more cultural and VERY timely
So maybe this is the appropriate video afterall. Regardless ,I encourage all of you to subscribe to this channel.

Not sure if its a coincidence or not but I think going back to God and Jesus has a lot to do with it.

It's not a coincidence. Keep Jesus in your heart and stay close to Him. Life will get and stay better.

All of this. He is also willing and ready to share in whatever suffering you are going through. I don't know how it helps, but offering my pain and suffering as a sacrifice to Him really does make it easier.

I used to be the biggest anti religion/God/Church person there was. College life was a non stop party.
Not by any choice of my own I moved to an isolated place back here in Louisiana. The nearest neighbor relentlessly invited me to church. I kept saying no. Finally, I gave in and went. I heard truth. I was loved. I realized how bad and wrong I was.
I now believe without doubt and God confirms it every single day. There is no equal to the joy of blessing. He loves me. He wants the same for you! Follow him. His way is better than anything you can do yourself.
