Christ historically speaking stands out as a unique individual

oh, i completely agree...

quote:

There aren't many people who throughout history have been recognized as a notable miracle performer

actually, around the time of Jesus, there were many "miracle" performers... Honi and Apollonius, for example... there were also other messianic movements at that time as well... Hezekiah, Simon of Perea, Judas the Galilean, etc....

again, i'm not really here to debate... i'm perfectly happy that y'all are happy believing what y'all believe... it should be ok with y'all to let me believe, or not believe, whatever i choose, right?

Dont ruin it for them man. And dont tell them John The Baptist was the rock star of the time, Jesus was a small time "miracle" magician .worker .

Of course John the Baptist was the more notable at the time that was his purpose as predicted in the Old Testament

But y'all are trying to laugh off or ignore Just the simple truth that was being stated is that you may try to argue the mysticism or the lack of proof of something that was never meant to be proven but believed in

Christ was a verifiable historical character and the evidence continues to mount that the stories around him told soon after his time are consistent and that's more historical literary proof than the dinosaurs

I’m a believer and follower of Jesus Christ (usually poorly), attend Mass regularly, go to confession, etc. and know that faith, God and community have saved me.

This thread reminds me of this though Pete Holmes routine.

You mean convenient lives. How would you know something is better or not without knowing right from wrong or good from bad?

Feces doesn’t objectively smell good or bad, but I don’t think anyone running a hotel wants their rooms to smell like feces. Probably wouldn’t have too many guests if they did. Some things are just obvious.

Religion causes people to overthink things. We have a million laws regulating things that people who lived in biblical times couldn’t even fathom. No one thinks we need a highway god to dictate that the speed limit should be 55 or that green means go or that car tags are required.

There’s no such thing as objective morality, but there are actions that are generally not beneficial to society. Murder, theft, etc. The realization of that is no more divine than recognizing that an intoxicated person driving 100 mph on the highway is unsafe and that such behavior needs to be discouraged.

It’s all pretty simple. We can make up laws to govern ourselves without justification from a deity.

Can you reword this so it doesn't seem contradictory? I'm not sure what you mean here.

I’m not the most churchy person. My wife is. My day is better when I go. And it’s more than mama is happy.

Wife knows a couple of people from church. Life was in tatters and church was a part of them putting it back together
