Went to that bar for years before I found out they had the best lunch ever. Many attorneys and business men went there for lunch. Crazy thinking what kind of people that establishment attracted at night.

Yep. I never realized that either. They had the best lunches that I can remember once I found out. Was way different with the lights on.

The MOON!’ Man was that a meal or what! Loved it so much I can mimic the smothered chicken and pork roast along with black eye peas and corn bread. Across the tracks in some old house back in the 80s

My uncle managed the Bengal for like a decade in the late 70s and 80s.. my first trip to BR as a kid, we stopped into the Bengal and had what i still consider to be one of the best hamburgers I’ve ever had.

Sadly, by the time i was an LSU student in the 90s, the Bengal was a shell of it’s former self.. i’m not sure if it was it’s not-so-great location or what, but every time i’d go there with a buddy, we’d have the whole place to ourselves.. at least the drinks were still cheap.

Highland Rd, on the ‘bad’ side of campus.. way down past where Taco Bell and Weinerschnitzel were (are?), and on the same side of the street.. prob about 1 or 1.5 mi from campus.

Across the street from The White Horse in the 1970's, which was next to Church's, I believe.

The Bengal turned out a damn fine cheeseburger and club sandwich as I recall, early 80s. God that was a long time ago.
