I truly prefer Orange Beach over Destin and I cannot place exactly what it is. Water and restaurants being the two negatives. But I do not go into the water except to purge anyways.

Lemme guess. You drive a pickup truck? Amirite?

At least the laborers and blue collars have their own beach and it's in bama. Thanks for helping keep the trash out of florida.

I love how it comes out in these threads that some think of Destin as some Mecca like Aruba while thinking Orange Beach is Holly Beach.

On the subject of Pensacola, I find it a little boring overall, but Portifino Resort is a damn nice place and in a great location that’ makes the beach area not all that crowded

Agreed, although I still prefer Destin on the whole.

Come talk to me when you have something to compare to Turks & Caicos.

Never said that, and Aruba is not that great anymore.

I know people who are well-off and go to OB, but they started going there because of the crowds at Destin and because of driving convenience. Now that Destin has been developed a lot more, it can accomodate the volume, but OB still gets the discount/convenience vacationers.

So thanks.

Destin was cool 20-30 yrs ago. Personally, I go on vacation to get away from the masses, not join them.

Is the traffic that much worse in Destin? Always go to Orange Beach. Have not been to Destin in years.

We've been going to Destin for the last 10 years or so for 4th of July week. We stay in a large 3 BR condo on the beach. The only time we leave is to hit the grocery store around 7:30 am for ice, and maybe 1 night out for dinner. We have a 6-8 umbrella sets and have never had issues with over crowding. Yeah its a lot of people but we are in an area that is pretty much only reserved umbrellas (no SEC tents).

Traffic is a non issue for us, but we are smart enough not to drive on 98 for any reason except to leave town.

Yes, mainly because there aren't as many surface streets. Destin is constrained by the gulf on one side, and the bay on the other. OB has more land and more surface streets to accommodate traffic better. Traffic can still be bad in OB on the main roads, but nothing like Destin on 98.

Way too many people in FWB/Destin. Orange Beach/Perdido is more laid back.

Co-Workers always complain about the traffic in Destin. I've never really noticed it in OB but we usually go during the week. OB has gotten nicer imo over the past decade.
