She wishes! She sold all of her company back in like 2006 for around 50 million or something like that.

Depression doesn't go away for rich people. I like to joke that if I had a fortune and didn't have to work, there is no way I could ever be depressed, but it just doesn't work like that.

No she didn't. Neiman Marcus Group purchased 56% of the Kate Spade brand in 1999, and acquired the remaining 44% in 2006. The sale was worth about $100M.
The company was then sold to Coach last year, along with a few other companies, in a sale that was worth $2.4B.

NOPE. She hadn't owned her named company for eleven years. She had sold it in two parts to Niemans, who sold it to Liz Claiborne.
The big Fashion awards show was last night and she wasn't there and maybe wasn't even invited.

I listened to a podcast about how she started her company (since sold FWIW) and she and her hubby went through some pretty trying times. Was a very interesting hearing how she made it.
Business related? What was their issue?

Saw a story on how she did it. Hanging with scarf tied to doorknob. Still trying to figure out the logistics on this one. Or...like someone said...something smells rotten.

Possible. Prisoners have "hung" themselves in bed to prevent being seen and interrupted. Put enough pressure to cut off blood circulation and lose consciousness. Gravity does the rest.

I mean you basically have to have had no interaction with any woman at all for about 20 years to "have no idea who this person is." That amounts to quite an admission.

quote:Is that why she was upset? It appreciated from 0.1 billion to 2.4 billion AFTER she sold.
She sold it twelve years ago for 124 million.
Somebody else sold it last year for 2.4 billion.

the new company she and her husband started was called "Frances Valentine", and she legally changed her name to be Kate Valentine Spade. Now I'm not a psych major but I'm guessing her identity was very wrapped up in her former company (as it probably should be since it was her name), and she was trying to get it back. Maybe the new company was floundering. Not sure, but to me that's not really normal behavior to change your name to that of your new company.

I’m thinking someone close to her money made it look like a suicide.
