describe your out of state move

so back in 2015 I accepted a year long commitment to work for AmeriCorps, a federally funded volunteer program, in a southeastern state park system as a park interpreter
my stint as “park ranger” ended in July 2016 and I accepted a gig in PDX and had my best friends (while were at the time dating) move to NW Montana (Whitefish) that same summer to work jobs in Glacier country. I visited, brought my buddy’s dog, and stayed a week before exploring Portland for housing. I took my trip to PDX and didn’t quite get the feels I got while in Montana.
I came back to whitefish and decided to look for employment in the local area. After browsing for jobs for a few days i got an interview and job offer within 3 days. A day later I found a private basement apartment along the whitefish river minutes from downtown whitefish. Life was had.
I lived in whitefish for 2 years, working seasonal jobs and living life. Got a job with DOI in Glacier with my buddy on the same crew the following summer in 2017.
Transferred from the National Park Service as a 1039 seasonal to the Bureau of Reclamation as a permanent career conditional in May 2018. Bought a house outside of Glacier and Whitefish in October 2018 and have never looked back.
what’s your out of state story?

Leave my ring in my hotel room and tell them I'm a widow.
Wife got killed in an underwater welding accident and I've just been too depressed to spend the settlement.

This is some millennial shite if ever there was any.

Why so many abbreviations

Found a job out of state, sold my house in NOLA and told the Sewerage & Water Board and the photo camera company & city to go frick themselves.

Just curious, but did you think anyone was really going to read all that?

If you don’t want to you don’t have to.
But I still got a reply

What are you wanting described? Moving sucks.

Like the moving process?
When I was living in Charlotte I got a job offer here in Bham that I accepted. It included a relocation package. They sent an 18-wheeler to the house I was living in when all of my stuff would have easily fit in the smallest U-Haul. I had told the company I was a poor just a few years out of college, but that's what they sent. The driver and I had a good laugh over the 5 minutes it took us to load the truck.

Is that a bad thing?
90%+ of this board probably doesn’t work for the government. What’s your point?

As a federal employee, we live on acronyms.

God I hate it. My little sister and BIL buy a new house every couple of years. That would be miserable to me.
We'll probably stay in this house until my daughter gets out of school. Planning on my next move being my last though.

Back in April, I was offered a job at Grand Canyon National Park, and I turned it down. I have regretted doing so most every day since.
I would have been doing construction management type stuff for the construction projects on the lodge and resort facilities at the park. The job didn’t pay much, but virtually all of my living expenses (housing, food, health insurance, etc) would have been covered.
TBH, though, I think I probably would have regretted taking it too. I’m just that kind of miserable sob that makes the OT what it is

I had to Google "PDX" because I guess I'm just a lame non-PNW guy.
