This sounds to me like this individual wanted a white girlfriend, but knew he had no chance, so took out everything he could on them. Why it takes so long to get someone on death row to the chair is insane.

quote:I drove a grey extended cab Sierra. I got pulled over multiple times. One time I got surrounded while i was parked in the lot near the Rec, listening to the CD for music appreciation late one night for a final or midterm. 4 cops surrounded me and got me out at gunpoint.
I drove a Ford Ranger at the time (not white though). I probably got pulled over a half dozen times for not signaling a lane change or going 36 in a 35. I knew what was going on and was okay with it.
I just told them, "License and registration Chicken fricker."

Unnerving. My parents told me I couldn’t walk the lakes or to and from class without someone with me. Getting home from my restaurant shift late at night and parking on campus was scary. I used to walk with mace at all times.

I remember driving home down Stanford and seeing a huge police presence and yellow tape at the first victim’s house. She was the nurse named Gina. If anyone was before her I didn’t know it but as the news reported more victims we were all very afraid. I carried pepper spray to walk the lakes and would start running if a car came near me.

His son, grew up in a single mother household with dad not around, ended up committing homicide too. Shocker right. Although I highly, highly doubt even if Lee were never caught that he'd ever be in his son's life, pay child support, or have any active role.

I was in sales and would drive to place like Shreveport and return after full day to protect pregnant wife.
Come to find out he attacked often 4-6 am and that’s when I would leave.
One killing was street behind my house 4-5 houses away. It was a real fear and if she would have been a target I was leaving at times he would had liked.
Big protective Blue Healer helped my fears.

This was 98 or 99. Before the city was full parnoid
heard a story about a friend's older sister coming home after a house party. Drunk and looking to smoke. She got home before the rest of her friends did. She had walked back from the house party alone. Real late
She went to the kitchen. Got a glass of water and black dude was smiling at her thru the kitchen window. Her friend came in behind her a few minutes later and the guy was nowhere to be seen
i have heard it a few times. There is no way of knowing it was DTL. I've heard it from her brother and other BR people (her family is BR locals). The story goes that they either called the cops and the police did nothing. Or they didn't call the cops because they are a bunch of dope heads.
the part that checks is she was partying with restaurant industry people so staying up late, probably with some help from modern chemistry

Scary... I lived in sharlo a few condos down from a murder... I think it was charlotte murray pace.
My gf was fricking terrified. Every girl had mace or a gun on them, even in their house/apt/condo

This topic came up last fall. Told this story in that one.........
At the time I lived in Hunters Glen off Jefferson near Hoo Shoo Too. So not too far from I believe it was Briarwood where one of the victims lived. One afternoon my wife and toddler daughter are out in the yard pulling weeds. We lived in a curve. Wife saw a white truck in street stopped in curve but thought nothing of it. Few minutes later truck is still there and notices it’s a black guy behind the wheel looking at her. Started working her way to back door and looked one more time and he’s still sitting there. When she looked this last time he slowly drove off. They got inside quick and called me. Have always thought it was DTL and never slept without a gun on night stand again until he was caught.

Is he the one that dumped a body at Sherburne WMA? I remember I was bow hunting there back then.

It cut down on my peeping tom nonsense.

what were those apts called back then? Had a friend that lived there.
I remember them too. They had saloon doors where the bathroom was. It was unsettling to take a shite where anybody could hear you.

Paranoid doesn't begin to describe it. I was 24 when things really ramped up, and I wanted to pack up and leave BR. By the time Charlotte Murray Pace was killed, people were starting to connect the previous murders. Her death was just surreal to me, being a recent LSU grad and thinking back to how often we all hung out in Sharlo. A real "coulda been me" feeling. Definitely like living in the movie Scream.

Is the DTL house still standing? I heard it was razed.

Ricky and his girlfriend were parked in a car in a cemetery, Derek Todd Lee stabbed him multiple times, then raped Ricky’s girlfriend while he watched (near ) and then DTL stabbed her to death, he left Ricky to die, but Ricky survived
this is not accurate at all...

Apparently was one of the most gruesome scenes BRPD has had.
I know 2 of the homicide detectives that were on the scene very well, both have long since retired.
One of them told me it was beyond human comprehension what he did to Murray Pace. He said by far it was the most evil, repugnant thing he had ever seen - and he dealt in homicides for over 20 years. He said you couldn't even imagine a person could do that to another human being. Said he had nightmares about what he saw for a long time after.
Somebody posted in this thread the details from court docs. That's how fricked up and reprehensible DTL was, beyond comprehension.

What reason do you have to just make shite up? This is grossly inaccurate.

Yeah, it seemed Zachary was onto him, but BRPD inept.
That link someone posted was something else to read. While I knew he was violent, I didn’t realize that extent.

I got swabbed. The policeman was apologetic and told me “you wouldn’t believe some of the people that I am having to swab”.

stated doing some research after reading other thread about one of DTL’s victims house being for sale. I remember hearing about it while it was happening but being a kid I was pretty naive to what was truly going on. What was it like around Baton Rouge at that time? Were people really paranoid or was that exaggerated? Did any of you with a white pickup truck get strange looks? Any other interesting stories pertaining to DTL?
Great years to attend LSU games from out of town and feel safe.
