The defense witness offered into testimony guidelines for filling out death certificates that included the following paragraph:
Deaths due to positional restraint induced by law enforcement personnel or to choke holds or other measures to subdue may be classified as Homicide. In such cases, there may not be intent to kill, but the death results from one or more intentional, volitional, potentially harmful acts directed at the decedent (without consent, of course).
Further, there is some value to the homicide classification toward reducing the public perception that a “cover up” is being perpetrated by the death investigation agency.
Let me help you. Doesn't say definite homicide. Says MAY BE. That's what the adults are trying to determine in court. Stop talking in absolutes as a gotcha.

right as in the pathologists had the option to go with undetermined, accident, etc but believed the evidence strong enough to support homicide as the cause.

Anyway, this witness was excellent. Seems to really help establish reasonable doubt for anyone open to it.

So its the knee vs drugs, heart disease with blockage. I want Nelson to ask this witness about the knee before the prosecution does.

Well one of the Court TV guest said that this witness was excellent for the defense.

This may be all Nelson needs.
He had a a use of force witness that disputed the conclusions of the state's two "experts" on use of force. Nelson's guy also wasn't some LAPD guy that just watched an iphone video.
He now has a medical expert talking about drugs, heart conditions, etc. Disputing medical testimony of the state. He has disputed the two biggest elements of this case: causation and whether Chauvin acted within appropriate guidelines. Since the experts conflict, there is therefore doubt on these issues. Not to mention that he destroyed the state's case and left a great deal of doubt on the table. I wonder how many more witnesses he even needs to put on the stand

Did anyone just hear one of the HLN panelist suggest that because the present expert witness testifying is from South Africa, that his testimony may be perceived as biased due to his inherent racism?

Witness testified cause of death due to his heart issues WHILE being restrained not DUE to being restrained.

AMS will flip her wig over this!!

that would've been a question I would've asked the ME
the way I would've phrased it... "In layman's terms... your cause of death essentially reads 'GF's heart and lungs just stopped working during police restraint, correct? And there could be any number of reasons his heart and lungs stopped working during that time, including heavy drug use and heart disease?"
also something along the lines of
"could any high stress situation have caused his heart to fail considering all the other factors in play here? perhaps even a close race where he had a big money bet at the horse track?"

im not seeing the point in the carbon monoxide defense, it seems like an argument for the prosecution. Who put and kept GF near the tailpipe of a running car?

Spending alot of time on the CO2 and tailpipe... Another reasonable doubt..

It moves the conversation from the neck.

Because the prosecution has laid their entire case on the “knee”.
Prosecution doesn’t get to pick and choose ways Chauvin killed him. They have to pick one method and prove it.

moves the convo directly to why would they keep a man who's struggling to breath near exhaust? that seems even dumber and less reasonable for DC. he could have forced GF to the ground further away from a chemical asphyxiant instead of near the source of it.
