Given that he’s 17, until they charge him as an adult I don’t think the media would say either way. Of course, I agree with you that if he is charged as an adult and he's black, the media will downplay the fact that he’s black as much as possible.

Don't give the media that much credit. If he were white, they would have already stated, "the white 17 yr old suspect..."
But, as I mentioned, some OT sleuths have already determined that his name is Desmond (Dez), so this is a moot point.

I have a question for whoever can answer…….
It was stated that Washington declined to provide DNA during the initial interview, which I’m assuming would have been voluntary. Once arrested, can DNA be taken from him non voluntarily at that point?

The police didn’t know anything about the rape or what happened. In the affidavit, it says the 18-year-old was identified as one of the four males who left the bar with the woman. But that was it.
The kid came in before 7 o’clock in the morning and gave a full statement. Reading the affidavit, I think it’s clear he was remorseful about what happened to the girl.
Hell, this board (which seems to know everything before it happens) didn’t know anything about the rape for at least a day.
What would the police really have at this point if not for his statement that he gave merely hours after the events that transpired?

it was posted previously in this thread that police identified the car they were in and determined that carver was the driver based on the vehicle's ownership (it was either his or his parents')...
and given the descriptions given in the warrant/affidavit by the medical examiner, they were absolutely aware that she had been sexually assaulted before he gave his statement...

I may have missed it, but where did you get this? I saw where he came in at 6:10 PM the next day to give a statement. That would be plenty of time to learn she was hit and know the walls would be closing in soon.
