This girl was rarely on social media, her husband wasn't at all. Not all of suicides are because of it.
A good friend, hung himself in front of his dogs and didn't even have internet access.

So I guess the terrorists that blow themselves up and kill innocent people can be classified in this mental ill group also I mean it is suicide after all. Yep we got a mental illness crisis now.

Actually most terrorists are fully cognitively intact. That's just the power of truly believing in a murderous doctrine

In reality, suicide is the greater burden on those left behind.

I know what you meant with your original post, baw. You were not kicking anyone in the balls. You were making the point that sometimes, the way things work out are just not fair.

No blood, no foul.

Now that's interesting. I'd say it is the result of mental conditioning. Would you consider members of the Manson family fully cognitively intact?

While I won't claim to know anything about the OP's story, social media often gives people a false image of their friends' lives, and their life, in turn doesn't look as good.

Best description of social media: everyone else's A roll on display for you to compare to your daily B roll.

If you can't realize this you really have no business using social media.

I have had two friends who's kids killed themselves. Both dragged drama out on social media for a bit before going through with it. Both were over the breakup with a girl.

i absolutely agree that situations like this are based on a lack of thinking things through...this is not depression...did they feel depressed? obviously...did they have clinical depression? i'd bet not.

a lot of young people have no clue how to deal with rejection, or a world in which things don't always work out the way you might like...and i do think social media plays some part in this way of thinking.

Life is life. If you need help, get it. Or, scream out to someone who will listen till they help you.

Not everyone has a support system to cry out to.

And sometimes there's literally nothing that can actually help. I can speak from firsthand experience that suicide seems like a welcomed option when you give up an opportunity you can't get back, when your choice not only killed your dream and also caused your family to struggle for almost a year. Sometimes shite happens that cannot be fixed, that no one can talk you through; you have to find a reason to keep going on your own.

I'm certainly not going to spill my life out on TD, however I know from 25 years of depression what these folks have gone through. My clinical depression was brought on by an extremely difficult divorce in my 20's. I tried to shake the depression on my own and I've tried medication. I've never been able to shake it.

I fight my depression daily. Most days are OK...some are terrible. I have a wife and daughter. I made a promise to my wife when I married her to spend the rest of our lives together. I have every intention of keeping my promise. I'm not going anywhere.

Personally, I believe the speed of life in general and the speed of information in today's society is too much for many people. I believe we're drowning in information overload and many can't take the constant overload of information running through their brain. When we were growing up, life was easier....less stress, less info. It's a constant "go,go,go" world now. The good ole days of someone being unable to reach you are over. Now it's instant....you can't call them back two days from now. The pager was the first device to bring the "instant contact" into my world. Technology has made life much more stressful than years ago. I'm close to "unplugging" from electronics for many reasons, but the information overload is reason number one. I don't need to know every time you take a shite or the waiter fricked up your order.

Anyone ever seen the documentary called "The Bridge"? It's pretty sobering. Its live cameras at Golden Gate Bridge and shows people jumping. You can just see their anguish as they seem to ponder what they are about to do. It profiles some of the people and hearing their stories from their friends and family is sad. Depression is really a bitch and so hard for people to shake. Easy to say "they need to get over it" but for some it is really a lifelong battle.

I've told my daughter many times that whatever she chooses to do in life should make her happy. Be poor doing what you love before ever getting into the stressful corporate rat race. Letting your dreams slip away just for money is the worst mistake I ever made. It's a daily mental beat down hating your job.

I had a student who committed suicide in March. The kid had academic and athletic scholarship offers, came from a stable home, and had a very bright future ahead of him. He gave it all up less than two months before his high school graduation. He had the worst kind of depression too: silent depression. I never picked up on anything because he never showed any signs.
