I started talking to a therapist, and it as helped. That's the only advice I have. I'm rooting for you wasteland. Depression is a tough battle, but you have to continue with counseling. Don't allow people to make you feel as though you are a pussy for feeling that way.

Set goals every day. No matter how small.

This is absolutely the right answer. For me, a small goal is Atomic Burger dine-in where I can also scope the LSU talent. But the only way I reward myself on the weekend with AB is to have worked out at least 4 days prior. Simple, if I can't count 4 days of cardio till my clothes were soaked each day then I don't get my triple cheese burger and look at some arse.

My situation was very similar to yours with the medication and therapy. I’ve been medication and therapy free for 4 years now and ramped up the exercise instead. Walking/running for at least 90 minutes a day has been a game changer. Changing my mindset to be more positive and grateful and putting more effort into my spiritual life has helped tremendously.

Have you had blood work done recently to make sure your vitamin D or thyroid levels aren’t low? That is very important.

Wishing you all the best and hope you’re feeling better soon! Prayers.

When I get depressed I think about how bad others have/had it.

I don't have to pick cotton and shite in a outhouse in 100 degree humid heat.

It helps me feel better about my situation.

Sunshine. Sunrise every morning 5 min minimum. Sunsets. High levels of Vitamin D. Vital for thousands of bodily processes. SLEEP. Follow Circadian Cycle. Proper breathing. Mindfullness. Watch your thoughts. Never feel sorry for yourself and never consider yourself a victim. Just a few.

How old are you? Have you had your testosterone levels checked? Low T can cause depression. I got on TRT and that fixed me.

5 pages and no hookers and blow, wtf has happened to this place? In all seriousness eat better, exercise, set goals, and get into something you enjoy. I was in a rutt for a little while changing eating habits, exercise, and losing a little weight really do go a long way.

I suffered clinical depression throughout the late 80s into the mid 90s. It was horrible. I was fortunate that I saw a psychiatrist in the mid 90s who put me on a number of different ant-depressants. I was fortunate in that I responded pretty quickly. I have not been on any anti-depressant since around 1998. I still have down times but not the dark times I had before treatment.

You are fortunate in being able to recognize that you are not doing well. Most depressed people cannot make that determination. Seek some medical advice, there may be something physically wrong that can be treated. For most people, depression is treatable. Don’t suffer needlessly, be good to yourself.

Best wishes.

Thanks a lot Iona. I didn’t think about being fortunate I’m recognizing it and trying to treat it. I’m actually considering taking 3-6 months off to work on myself

Most doctors will try another antidepressant. They also will increase the dosage. A psychiatrist will do this but a internal medicine doc will not. So yeah. You will eventually find one that works.

Diet, Exercise, Sunshine, Sleep Routine and most of all being Honest with myself and everyone around me.

One of the best things I ever started doing is being honest. Quit committing to things I couldn't do. Quit taking on too much work or other activities. Learning to just say No thanks.

ETA: and when you fall off one of the wagons above just hop right back on...we are all imperfect. Just gotta keep going.

This is really good advice that I meant to mention in my post earlier, and it's probably what allowed me to finally solve my depression. In a nutshell, I had certain values and ideals (as most of us do), but I wasn't living up to many of them. Rather than take personal responsibility and make necessary changes, I knowingly lied to myself and blamed everything else. The accumulation of self-guilt leads to depression.

Perhaps take some time to think about the things you value most in other people, and see if you are meeting them yourself. If you are not, honestly evaluate why and make the changes you need to.

Depression sucks… it can grab your mind and your soul…. I went through deep depression after I got sick and had to miss a ton of time at work… I wasn’t able to do what I had done for years day after day….. it ate me up inside… finally I excepted that I was never gonna be that person anymore…. And it was painful…. But I’m doing ok now…. Still get depressed once in a while but I have the support of my better half and family… THEY understand……..

You should look into psychedelic therapy or a retreat.

They have them in The Netherlands and Jamaica.

As someone else mentioned, perhaps you can try Ketamine first here in the states. You might get some relief, but IMO, it doesn't have the same promise that megadosing psilocybin in a group setting does.

I have seen radical transformations with the latter.
