Yes. Sterling Management or Sterling Consulting.....I forget the name now. Continuous upselling for meeting the fiduciary duties of your practice, lest you be considered "unethical" to your own business.

ETA: as previously mentioned, not all dentistry is a scam. I do however think that I don't need x-rays every 6 months when I have no issues x several years. Think about it....we don't x-ray any other asymptomatic body parts every 6 months do we? My family medical history indicates that I'll probably need knee replacement surgery at some point in my life. I have no issues now. So what indicates x-ray of my knees ($$) every 6 months now? Just so you can say when I'm 75 yrs old "yep, we've been watching that joint for a long time now. Told ya."
No thanks.

My dentists nurse practically puts her big boob in my mouth every visit, which naturally I am on-time for every six months to the day. :)

True or false.
I don’t think this but a lot of people say it

I don't think its a straight out scam. We need dentist, but do they take advantage? Im sure a lot do. One time I was getting my teeth clean. My dentist asked about my insurance, looked in my mouth and says "you have an area that could potentially become a cavity. We will schedule you to come get it filled before it turns into one". At that point it made me wonder... If dentist ever "fix" things they don't really need to. Again, I am sure there are those who do it. But you definitely need to get your teeth cleaned, etc.

LA dental center Aspen Mint Etc are all high turnover. More you see, the more you make type of offices. If you want to get in and out. That's where you go. If you want a detailed work for your hour, you go to an old time dentist who gives 0 fricks about updating

There is an enormous chasm between the two different types of practices you described in your post.. Try and find you a dentist who is in that middle ground.. not 85 yrs old , about to keel over , with the olive green dental chair and faux wood paneling .. but definitely not the massive corporate operations like Aspen, DentalOne et al.. Most dental practices are composed of two or three dentists, maybe an associate dentist or two, and have nice offices, but not ultra-glossy in the tallest building in town.. and the good news for those of us who are male, is that the majority (by a pretty good bit) of younger dentists are female, many of whom are extremely attractive.. and then of course, there are always the hygienists …. One thing i will grant you is that a lot of the medium sized independent practices are now getting bought out by the Pacific Dentals and Louisiana Dentals of the world- the enterprise, group practice model- but it’s still very possible to find non-corporate owned dental offices to work on your and your family’s teeth.. at least, for now .

what do yall mean by this? i been going to same dentist since i was a kid and the only thing they ask after a cleaning is if i want the floride.

When I first went to my dentist after moving here, they suggested $6K for Invisalign (I have straight teeth). I politely declined, and that was it. But, it was right off the bat, using this wand to show me a 3D television show of my mouth and immediately stating I should get this. I assume they have to pay for all of the fancy technology somehow.

As far as dental insurance, all I have ever needed is 2 cleanings and one set of X-rays/year. If I ever needed more than that, I'm not even sure what would be covered, but my guess is, not much.

Dentistry is legit but dental insurance sure is a racket.

Unless you have multiple cavities or worse each year you are not coming out ahead no matter who you use.

Note I am speaking of paying for your own insurance, not your companys.

I certainly think some dentists are scam artists. I had one dude in Gonzales tell me I had multiple cavities and other issues (after 40+ years of having great teeth) and said it was urgent I spend $1000+ to get it fixed ASAP.

I went elsewhere and have a fine bill of health.

I have never had cavity issues. One or two every five years. I went for a cleaning 2 weeks ago and they had a new tool that analyzes your tooth electronically and this thing supposedly found 7 cavities. I have no tooth pain or any other issues but they want me to get $1,800 worth of work after insurance.

True story. Had a filling break off that I got when I was about 8/9 years old. Went for my normal yearly check up and the dentist asked, like he always does, how's everything going. I explained to him I crunched on a cracklin and boom it worked. Cracklined my filling right off. Before I went to the dentist, I found out it was a wisdom tooth I hadn't had removed. Had two removed when I was in the AF, left the two on my left side, and it was one of those. After he looked at the tooth he said, we can put a cap on that with no problem. I've already had one capped and insurance doesn't pay for that shite. He rolls out the room to treat other patients while the dental tech does the cleaning. He comes back and says set up an appointment and we'll cap that bad boy up and make it better and stronger and you'll be eating cracklins in no time. I say Dr. why don't we just pull it and be done with. He laughs and says to me, hey, don't go rogue on me. I say Dr. it's a wisdom tooth, jerk it. He finally gives in and says okay and had it pulled two weeks later. $75.00 compared to $750.00. Yea, it's a scam.

Went to a dentist on Highland Rd. for a check up when I was at LSU. He said I had falling gum disease. While in the Army the dentist at the base never mentioned it over a seven year period.
I still have all my teeth and no rot.

When we moved, I walked into the closest dentist to my house and, shite you not, they had bags of Oreos and Skittles and cans of coke in the waiting area. Never went back. I prefer local dentists in simple offices.

What you described is how insurance, not dentistry, is a scam.
