on a larger level, i'm really worried about all the new power poles they just put in.

Mentioned that last night to the other half. We’re about to find out how this complete rebuild will hold up in a hurricane! Hope the latest and greatest material works out.

An att salesman called me last week and asked if I wanted fiber at the business. “frick yeah!” Was my reply. I signed the contract immediately. After that, bitch told 60-90 days.

Sudden link still isn’t up at the house or the business. I signed up with a guy to get internet back up at the shop. It’s slow as shite but at least I can work. I bought a Verizon jet pack for the house so we could watch TV in the evenings.

I also cancelled HULU and signed up for YouTubeTV because HULU wouldn’t allow me to stream while hooked to the jet pack.

Anyone else get the feeling that a lot of Nola ppl aren’t going to give two shits about storms next season?

Just bc we got incredibly lucky this year all we’ll hear next year is “Nah every storm is going to go West like 2020 we won’t get a drop”. Or is everyone’s attention spans so short we’ll panic 5 days out like we always do?

People need to gauge the risk from each storm independent from all others. Storms are different. Nola people will continue to generally ignore storms that aren't projected to have any impact on the metro area.

Hate it for LC and SW La, but I'm definitely breathing a sigh of relief in Nola this morning.

Impacts still felt in SELA?

Wind? Rain from outer bands?

Or will be in the clear??
You can't do that research for yourself to find the answer? You've got people in here looking at a second hurricane in about a month and youre asking about a place 2-3 hours distance from land fall.

For real guys, I'm slow at work with plenty of PTO and am interested in helping recovery if someone can point me in the right direction of someone to contact over there. I've got a horrible gut wrenching feeling this morning knowing what some of you are going through. GL, God bless, and stay safe people

I don’t have TWC. Are they finally talking about Laura again? I feel SWLA got the shaft from national media 5 minutes after the storm passed.

My biggest concern is so much debris in the area right now will be made into kites and projectiles. Winds won’t be catastrophic in normal circumstances, but conditions in Lake Charles are .... not normal

Plan to get it again. When people don’t die, it’s not a story.

also it's kind of the same thing that happened after Rita, when people were more self-sufficient and helped each other out

no deaths? no suffering by people begging for help from the government? no story

Great. I give up. What this area did to deserve this again I have no idea. Then you people have to deal with this crap again every year?

I’m reconsidering life in LC on my drive back from Baton Rouge this AM. This feels like the kid on the beach who builds a sand castle only for another kid to continually kick it down.

Yep. I remember that vividly. I remember Sera from KPLC making a video to the president stating that there were in fact, two storms that devastated Louisiana because national news was still covering Katrina after we were hit.

It’s crazy how different New Orleans is compared to the rest of south Louisiana.

a LOT of people are going to be in the same boat

i mean, if this thing does more damage (even if it's just blowing off tarps and raining again) to housing in LC, there won't even be housing for people who want to stay. closest will be Jennings and...they had Laura effects and will take damage from this storm

The first 15-20 posts in this thread are an interesting read.

Best wishes for my SWLA friends. Sorry y’all having to go through this again.

I would think we would be okay as far as that aspect is concerned. The new poles should be settled and as strong as they ever will be. More worried about the ones that took a beating in Laura but were still standing (barely) and put back into service.
